Texas Park Ranger shoved into lake for telling people to social distance. man arrested

https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/ny-texas-park-ranger-shove-social-distancing-coronavirus-20200502-gjyksk7xorg2vg2xe67qjz4tqq-story.html

A Texas man pushed a park ranger into a lake while the ranger was reminding people to practice social distancing Thursday. The incident was captured on video.

“Disperse yourselves, so you’re engaging with that six feet of distance with each other,” the ranger, later identified as Cassidy Stillwell, can be heard saying before being shoved into Lake Austin.

Brandon Hicks, 25, was arrested for the shove, NBC News reported. He’s been charged with attempted assault on a public servant. Apparently his escape attempt briefly seen at the end of the video did not end triumphantly.

The cops were rather perturbed.

“Brandon’s intentional and reckless action could have caused the Ranger to strike his head on the dock as he was falling, and render himself unconscious in at least 3 feet of water where he could have drowned to death,” police wrote in an arrest affidavit obtained by local NBC affiliate KXAN.

Looks like it was a pretty successful attempt since he made contact and pushed him into a lake.

From the Texas Code

(a) A person commits an offense if the person:

(1) intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causes bodily injury to another, including the person's spouse;

(2) intentionally or knowingly threatens another with imminent bodily injury, including the person's spouse;  or

(3) intentionally or knowingly causes physical contact with another when the person knows or should reasonably believe that the other will regard the contact as offensive or provocative.

(b) An offense under Subsection (a)(1) is a Class A misdemeanor, except that the offense is a felony of the third degree if the offense is committed against:

(1) a person the actor knows is a public servant while the public servant is lawfully discharging an official duty, or in retaliation or on account of an exercise of official power or performance of an official duty as a public servant;

From another section in the Texas Code

Sec. 12.34. THIRD DEGREE FELONY PUNISHMENT. (a) An individual adjudged guilty of a felony of the third degree shall be punished by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for any term of not more than 10 years or less than 2 years.

(b) In addition to imprisonment, an individual adjudged guilty of a felony of the third degree may be punished by a fine not to exceed $10,000.

Maybe that guys will stop cheesing in the mugshot when somebody tells him he might be sitting in a Texas State Prison for the next 10 years.

It is about time cops started arresting bullies who think they can use violence to get their way. Let the man sit in jail and think about what he did. None of their apologies later are going to mean jack shit to me. Fuck them. They need to learn to act more civilized. If they are THAT close to becoming totally uncivilized they are putting the rest of us in jeopardy and should be stopped.

Most of cops in the nation (at least at the city n county levels) seem to have had a rather peacful time at work the last month or so.. no nonsense arrests for non violent offenders, less traffic accidents, far less DUIs since a lot of the bars are closed, etc.

Now these guys gotta waste their otherwise peaceful afternoon at work, to drive their asses out to the lake cause THIS fuckin numpty thought it would be good sport to have some fun with a park ranger?!?

Fuck ya, he got arrested lol.
