I had switched to a new insurance company last October! I got a good rate for 2 vehicles and was paying about $150.00 each month for six months. I get an email stating that they going withdrawal $175.00 out of checking on the sixth of May. I havent been home to see the renewal yet, but that is an increase of $170.00 every six months! That is steeper than I have ever seen! I havent had any claims nor anything put on my or mothers driving records. Just wonder If anyone knows whats going on?

(5,376 posts)Our rates got increased dramatically two years in a row, and unlike other companies, they aren't reducing the premiums. They also got rid of all their local agents.

(17,425 posts)I believe this is generally due to fewer claims processed during the Covid-19 pandemic because fewer people are driving and therefore, the companies are more profitable as a direct result of this.
My insurance company has announced a 15 % rebate to auto policy holders on two months of premiums.
I would call your company to question the increase.

(10,885 posts)They sent a letter stating the reduction for April and May premiums, but didn't say how they'll reimburse those who pay all upfront, rather than monthly. I'm waiting to see if they refund my credit card or if they carry it forth to the next renewal. When you think of it, however, it's really not all that much $$$ coming back, maybe $35 in my case (at $1,400/yr.) Nice gesture, though.

(5,657 posts)They will have to refund. Right now it is a credit to my renewal... they can call it what they want but in the end if I move my business it will be a refund.

(26,071 posts)There is zero way your insurance went up unless you did something. The $170 is probably the "down payment" on your next six months/year/whatever yours is set to. They always take two months out for me, because I pay six months in four payments.

(5,557 posts)Geography is a major factor in how rates are calculated. Our insurance is cheap, $110 / mo for two cars and near max coverage and a 500/100 coverage. We also live in a rural area with a low rate of accidents.

(18,643 posts)Could be age related, rates go up after you turn 55. Also could be a general rate increase in your area. They may have given an introductory rate that has expired. Nearly every state allows your credit rating to be considered and that can have a surprisingly large effect on your auto insurance
