Trump administration pushing to rip global supply chains from China: officials

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration is "turbocharging" an initiative to remove global industrial supply chains from China as it weighs new tariffs to punish Beijing for its handling of the coronavirus outbreak, according to officials familiar with U.S. planning.

President Donald Trump, who has stepped up recent attacks on China ahead of the Nov. 3 U.S. presidential election, has long pledged to bring manufacturing back from overseas.

Now, economic destruction and the massive U.S. coronavirus death toll are driving a government-wide push to move U.S. production and supply chain dependency away from China, even if it goes to other more friendly nations instead, current and former senior U.S. administration officials said.

"We’ve been working on [reducing the reliance of our supply chains in China] over the last few years but we are now turbo-charging that initiative," Keith Krach, undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment at the U.S. State Department told Reuters.

He is, as usual, engaging in a cheap political calculation. He isn't going to strip shit from China. He's into China for tens of millions of dollars. He talks a lot of shit, but won't do a damned thing.

If he is talking about manufacturing necessary things like PPE then he should do what he needs to do to bring that manufacturing back to the United States. He won't though because the corporations can make much more money making it cheaply in China.

He is a fraud.

We love our cheap dollar store stuff, clothes, shoes etc.

Plus the rest of the world will ignore MF45 and continue to do business with them.

We are now looked down in the world now because of MF45.

this blaming China is a bunch of bullshit. Were they honest and straightforward about all the facts? No.

But DID WE KNOW IT WAS bad? YES!

MT Senator Daines has campaign ads promoting $10 Billion to help bring back companies that left the U.S. for Chinese production or products.

It infuriates me that the companies wanted to have cheap labor and products and probably evading taxes. Now they could be handed our tax dollars (and debt) to come back.

I have to buy plant based oils of Chinese origin because except for India on occasion, China is the only game in town.

In order to develop USA producers, the Trump clowns or Wall Street would need to put in money, with no certainty of success, neither will do that.

Every time I've tried to explain to these idiots that the US importer pays the tariff and passes the amount on to the retailer who then adds it to the price the US customer will pay, they don't believe me and say I watch too much fake news. They actually believe the Chinese government was forced to pay the tariff by Trump, and the imported product doesn't cost us consumers even a penny more.

We send millions of tons of raw materials to China, where they turn them into usable goods and sell those back to us.

Economically, we're on the wrong end of a mercantilist system, and our corporate masters are running it by remote control.
