My question is: Whats next?
While other, saner world leaders have received high approval ratings for their unifying approaches to coronavirus, the pandemic has been politically devastating for Trump. He thrives on rapidly-changing narratives he wants to bamboozle you with some new outrage this week to make you forget about the old outrage last week.
The daily grind of coronavirus news is throttling him, so hes decided fuck it, lets talk about something else. Hes gambling that in two weeks time, everyone will have forgotten what a callous prick he was about all those deaths, and how he failed to prevent them, and didnt have a plan to help anybody, and then just quit, like the pandemic was a business deal he could just walk away from.
It wont work, but hes going to do it anyway because its the only thing he knows how to do. Hence my question: Whats next?

(6,819 posts)manipulating the narrative to say, "I was the one who did the shut-downs. Saved millions of lives." As states open up and testing begins to reveal the extent of the pandemic, he'll claim he wanted everyone to stay in place.
Creating his own reality each and every day.
He also said people would wear masks, practice social distancing and other stuff, to keep them safe after reopening.
Nothing but a liar creating a reality that doesn't exist outside of his lies.
But his followers eat that BS up.

(100,075 posts)That's what this is all about. That's why the protests have turned into his rallies, they are to stir up his base, because he can't do it in person. I think of Trump the way I think of the Grandmaster in Thor. Like he could call on his base to do anything and they will do it regardless of the consequences. Only Trump lacks the charm, charisma, and intelligence of Jeff Goldblum.

(17,160 posts)I've been on a little GD-bomb the past ten minutes because his 'plan' is becoming apparent.
Disband the task force; prevent states reporting infections and deaths. It all goes away. Except it doesn't.
Newest Reality
(12,712 posts)I assume his plan is to let the state Governors take the blame for the entire debacle.
He has already been positioning himself for that and it gives him a scapegoat for his always blame someone else, a country, etc. Devious mind there.
I hope the Red state Governors didn't think he was going to cover for them and that they would be getting stabbed in the back over this, not that they don't deserve it.

(46,166 posts)And I don't even live in NY anymore. Trump thought he would drop the virus solutions into the laps of fearful governors. But instead they're coming up with solutions that spell leadership every day of the week.
Newest Reality
(12,712 posts)It it is a decent strategy and effective, too. That's what I want to see more of. In fact, I think we are going to need more unity and groups to further the blue wave as we entire into uncharted territory now and the GOP/Trumpocalypse.
The bad thing though is that this also reveals Trump's dissolution of the integrity of our union. You know its bad when states have to band together to deal with the Federal Government which is supposed to be supportive and unifying, especially in a crisis and it's not. It is acting in a divisive, destructive manner.
That's ominous in itself.

(46,166 posts)But the governors have to and want to protect their people. So fine. Cuomo has reached out to help the Navajo nation according to their President Nez. I feel that this action has to make Trump uneasy. That's reaching way outside of New York to help Americans so very far away because it's the right thing to do.
I don't put it past Cuomo, who is only 62, to have higher political goals. But what better way to make that happen than showing leadership defined by the theme of unity.
I never miss C's daily briefing. Every day he hits Trump hard where it hurts.
Newest Reality
(12,712 posts)I am also very moved by and appreciate Gov. Cuomos' leadership and initiatives and I get a sense that it is sincere, genuine and reflects a real concern for his people and the country itself.
There are some Governors, (Republican) who are on the Trump bus, though. Their reluctance to emulate Gov. Cuomo, (which they should already be able to do without his example) is troublesome and dangerous and even show contempt for their citizens while demonstrating fealty to the interests of big business.
That may catch up to them as their states show dramatic increases in the numbers of cases and deaths, and of course, they will hear Trump blame them most likely since deflection, blame and betrayal are among his finest features.

(7,403 posts)When the bullying ends in failure then what? For Trump you just walk away and pretend it didn't happen and not his fault anyway. Just hand it off to Jared Kushner to put a bow-tie on it and proclaim victory.
But this is on a scale where that is not possible. Investigations are about to start and they will be devastating. Corruption and failure to plan will dominate the findings. Trump is toast. Burned toast.

(205,339 posts)And not the American people - which is the most important job of any POTUS. Trump can't even imagine what others think or how they feel - and he really doesn't care. And he's boxed himself in since he's written off or fired anyone who could possibly give him any helpful advice - since he wouldn't have listened anyway. So he'll continue to lie and obfuscate and listen to his "gut" so all we can hope for is that more of the crazed supporters he still has will be affected enough to turn on him. The most frightening thing is that he's been written off by the rest of the world when we need the help and support of our allies the most right now.

(85,996 posts)...not faux conservative outrage, but folks with real struggles, folks increasingly likely to know or be related to someone sick or deceased, folks at the end of their money, losing homes, hungry, impoverished.
The lid is about to come off, imo, and the uprising will make the conservative 'outrage' look like the farce it's been.
