Ruth Bader Ginsburg destroys Trump solicitor general in live hearing from her hospital bed

“What the government has done in expanding this exemption is to toss to the wind entirely Congress’ instruction that women need and shall have seamless, no-cost comprehensive coverage,” Ginsburg told Solicitor General Noel Francisco. “They can get contraception coverage by paying out of their own pocket which is exactly what Congress did not want to happen.”

The justice observed that a “major trend in religious freedom is to give everything to one side and nothing to the other side.”

...............

“Nothing in the interim rules affects the ability of employees and students to obtain without costs the full range of FDA-approved contraceptives,” she said. “You have just tossed entirely to the wind what Congress thought was essential. That is that women be provided these services with no hassle, no cost to them.”

“Instead, you are shifting the cost of the employer’s religious beliefs to the employees who do not share those religious beliefs,” she added. “The women end up getting nothing. They are required to do just what Congress didn’t want.”

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg blasted the Trump administration for a rule that allows additional businesses to opt-out of providing no-cost birth control for women.

Ginsburg made the remarks during a telephone hearing that was streamed live due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The justice reportedly joined the hearing from her hospital bed where she is being treated for a gallstone infection.

If you don’t know what a hero she has been throughout her career, you will.

I am a person who is very cynical about “inspiration”, but she truly is inspiring.

thanks to rw radio, which depends heavily on male enhancement formulas, testosterone boosters, hair boosters, law firms specializing in helping men reduce alimony payments, etc

sen sheldon whitehouse mentioned it in one of the recent senate hearings how the rw think tanks could push an issue through the courts to the supremes just by taking some obscure case and exaggerating it with rw media.

a major part of that and by sending it out to llimbaugh and sons and blowing it up on 1500 radio stations to give it 'popular' support and buzz judges can hear in many states. in this case it was a regular item for years, ignoring that business owners have to operate within regulations in every aspect and in this case want to make the money and benefit from the protections so they can operate safely but don't want to be part of a democracy

Freedom of religion shouldn’t include the right to impose one’s personal beliefs on someone who disagrees. Freedom from religion matters.

And if you're against them, you're of the Devil.

In the simplicity of the "conservative Christian" mind, it's all very clear. These sons and daughters of a loving god hear it from their preachers and discuss our certain damnation around their family dinner tables. If you are not with them, you have no rights and, OK, I'll point it out, the fact that a "Jewess", of all things, (on our Jesus loving Christian Supreme Court!) says otherwise is proof to these poor lost "Christian" folks that they are right.

And remember, too, that these folk, good simple American folk, the stock of freedom, if you will, are all "Pro-Life" people who applaud the GOP's efforts to snuff out the elderly by reopening the nation to normal business in the midst of a highly deadly and contagious plague. Well, hells bells, they say, the good lord will protect their old folks -- except maybe Uncle Artie who stopped worshipin' after his wife and son were taken to glory in that drunk driver hit-and-run automobile crash a few years back -- and only call them to His House when their time is blessed and ready. So if a few hundred or thousand old non-believers die unpleasantly and separated from their loved ones, it's just a sign of their sinful, sinful lives, Halleluia!

Can I get an "Amen?"

Also, consider that when the Affordable Care Act was enacted in 2010, both houses of Congress were majority Democrat. Yet, the Democrats bent over backward to accommodate Republican demands in various portions of the bill. But in the end, the ACA was passed without one single Republican vote. They had their chance to influence the legislation while it was being drafted, but they were so wrapped up in their Tea Bagging hissy fit, they couldn't negotiate in good faith. Now, 10 years later, they want the courts to re-do the legislation they didn't vote for and that despite eight years of legislative hegemony didn't and haven't proposed a replacement.

I see its for a gall stone infection. I hope she recovers well, not just for her own sake. You know that Moscow Mitch will have no problem reversing his stance that a President can't appoint a SCOTUS in the year leading up to an election. Hang on Ruth, we need you.
