"...then you can't say you're 'pro-life' anymore."

A suggested response or retort or post - regarding anyone from Texas's Dan Patrick to Mitch "blue state bailout" McConnell and ANYBODY else (funny, they all seem to be over on that side of the aisle) who declares that, basically, old people have to die so our economy can revv back up. Could that be why this group is also in no hurry to see more people have access to good health care? Let 'em die if they can't afford it?

Livelihood over life - or I suppose we could say "livelihood trumps life," too, 'eh?

Well, okay then. Fine. Be that way. But you can never again call yourselves "pro-life."

Now WE get to do the kkkarl rove thing about "attacking them at their strengths." And turn it into a weakness.

I'd love your thoughts on this.

AND we support a woman's right to control her own uterus. Funny how sanity and morality can work together!

Which side is pushing for funding states and cities, keeping front-liners getting paychecks, trying to protect our food chain (hello, employees at meat packing plants!!!), keeping the little guy #1 on the priority list, and not big wealthy corporations or institutions with glittering super-fatted endowments, and the haves and already-have-mores?

And which side thinks only of tax cuts and more tax cuts - those tax cuts CUTTING INTO state and local budgets and the federal supplements they depend upon. "Cut taxes" means cut financial support that those federal-dollars-not-coming-in-anymore would have funded, but aren't there anymore. Hey Grover Norquist! What happens when you succeed in cutting the federal government so much that it's small enough to "drown in a bathtub" - and your house catches on fire but there's no longer enough people working at the local fire station anymore - because everybody else's jobs there got cut? Howdya like THAT, you stupid selfish cheapskate!

That side hates the government until disaster strikes and they realize they need the assistance, people-power, and other big-ticket proposals and programs that the government provides. That they NEED. But their rationalization might be - THEY need it. But they don't want to have to pay to cover if YOU need it.

By now, I think the whole stinking idea of "pro-life" needs to be challenged. Those who claim they are "pro-life" are mostly CONservative men, mostly white, and for them deep-down I suspect it's about domination of women. Deep-down I think there's this arrogance that STILL lurks just beneath the surface in that particular demographic - that women have invaded their space. Their "brotherhood of the workplace." Women in our jobs? Who invited them anyway? Since when are they equal? I think that attitude still lurks. They'll say they're "liberated" and they're plenty okay working with women. But old attitudes die hard. Especially if you're a guy who considers himself on-the-way-up or well qualified and experienced for a promotion - and it's given to a woman instead.

So maybe the answer is - to get more of the male mindset in dominant positions of power, right? If they loudly profess their ardor for the "pro-life" movement, they need to start getting the message that this position is all-or-nothing. Absolute. Pro-life PERIOD. No wiggle room. No compromises. You MUST have that baby! No exceptions (unless you're rich and well-connected, of course). You're not allowed to abort! Under ANY circumstances! Well, okay then. That means no exceptions for old people who "have a duty to die anyway, so our economy can get better." Uh-uh! NOPE! That's a BIG FAT NO!
