Poison pill
The local newspaper hasn’t reported it, not yet anyway. And that’s rather concerning.
By way of explaining, Greeley CO is the county seat of Weld County. Said county, with a much smaller and less densely packed population, is second only to Denver in rates of infection. You may have seen the national coverage about our meat plant. The newspaper does track those numbers.
But what they have yet to mention is what took place at last night’s city council meeting. With some businesses starting to reopen, even as the Covid19 numbers continue to climb, there was a proposal to follow the example of Denver and other communities to require face masks in public. Basic common sense, that. The vote was 6 to 1 against.
The proposal had been offered by the only Democrat on the council. In his day job he works in the scheduling department of the hospital, he routinely speaks with those who are on the front lines. You can believe that his proposal was very well informed. But he’s a Democrat.
And there are still those who believe that partisanship can’t be deadly.
