If this thing boomerangs': Second wave of infections feared
https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/2020/05/06/struggles-india-brazil-us-show-coronavirus-fight-far-won/
By ERIC TUCKER and CARLA K. JOHNSON Associated Press | May 6, 2020 at 4:16 AM CDT - Updated May 6 at 4:13 PM WASHINGTON (AP) — As Europe and the U.S. loosen their lockdowns against the coronavirus, health experts are expressing growing dread over what they say is an all-but-certain second wave of deaths and infections that could force governments to clamp back down. “We’re risking a backslide that will be intolerable,” said Dr. Ian Lipkin of Columbia University’s Center for Infection and Immunity. Around the world, German authorities began drawing up plans in case of a resurgence of the virus. Experts in Italy urged intensified efforts to identify new victims and trace their contacts. And France, which hasn’t yet eased its lockdown, has already worked up a “reconfinement plan” in the event of a new wave. More at link.

1. I'm pretty sure that here
the repukes will just force everyone to keep working until they die. We can't allow anything to hurt profits, you know.

3. Yeah, at this point...
it's pretty clear they have no intention of shutting back down.
We're all on our own. Good luck! |

5. I don't think that the Federal government
will support another shutdown if 5,000 people a day are dying. In a contest between short term profits and human life, the profits will win every time, because the people making the big money also make the rules and therefore control the game.
The Republicans have openly admitted that they know that their actions are going to cost many lives; it just doesn't matter to them. The next move will be to bury the numbers of the people that we are burying. We are already hearing from the top the whispers that the number of deaths is over counted. The dying is just getting warmed up. |

6. I have what may be a dumb question, but is there ANY action being taken at the Federal level
to formulate some kind of long term plan to contain this virus and mitigate the damage? I mean besides hoarding PPE to make a profit off of, is any Federal Agency on top of this at all?

11. That is just really fucked up.
The Federal Government absolutely has the responsibility of managing a crisis of this magnitude. It should not be left to the states alone, especially when the president is playing partisan games with them.

10. Wondering about Ohio, too.
The idiot repukes passed an amendment today to strip power from Dr Amy Acton, the wonderful doc that has helped guide the state thru this mess. Mike DeWine, as bad as he is, was smart enough to listen to her, take her advice. The repukes are furious-they think the legislature should make those decisions. I’ll tell you that if there is a second wave of covid it’s going to get very ugly in this god forsaken state.

12. Second wave?
The first wave is still going with something like a 9-11 worth of people dying every day.

13. It's not even a boomerang. It hasn't stopped climbing.
We’re in for a bad time.
