CV-19 sure has illuminated the Republican endgame. Decimate the populations in urban areas and create political chaos. Trump failed to react to the virus in February and everything the Federal Government is doing is to obstruct any blue state from making a recovery. Short masks, PPE, tests, and focus away from protection and supporting mass contagion. And they have a few hundred morons willing to die for the Trump cause - whatever that may be....his cult can't explain it in any objective sense.
Hang in there, everywhere. It's going to get a hellavu lot worse before we get the tools to protect ourselves - an election and a reckoning is coming. I think we'll see another 5% of his base starting to wonder.

(24,497 posts)The Republicans are, quite simply, a 21st Century version of the Confederacy. Committing political treason against the United State. This time around, a bunch of morons parading around in camo and AR-15's - that's don't make a revolution of support.

I certainly agree with this statement. The confederacy never died, but was carried on by the Old South and the Ku Klux Klan and spread to all the states. The Republicans, from Mitch McConnell on down, want to destroy the US and everything it stands for.
At the same time we the people are in a class war with the billionaires who don't care if the New Confederacy wins this time around. In fact some of the billionaires are bankrolling the New Confederacy.

(2,502 posts)opened in our area. I was sitting with my husband and a friend of ours and when it came up I just got very upset. All one needed to do was to follow the logical consequences. Big box stores (and malls) would cause the demise of local businesses and leave Main Street USA devastated. Eventually because of the consolidation of product it would cause a loss of choice - that would cause the development of the "upper" class that could get goods from "boutique" businesses and a "lower" class that would be at the mercy of the large retailers. The loss of mom and pop businesses would take away the socialization and sense of community that comes with them. Resentment would build up, it would become political and eventually there would be a Civil War. Something like that - hell, it was 30 years ago and I had four small kids that were addling my brain.
So, not prophesy, just logic.

(20,870 posts)In Ireland, for example, the citizens aren't going out either. Food is left at their door every day, so no such thing as having to pay for a pricey Instacart delivery that you cannot afford.
Health care workers check on the elderly and those that live alone daily to make sure they are alright and any one else that may need assistance, regardless of age or status.
THE GOVERNMENT CARES!
If this country CARED they'd be handing face masks out everywhere! People would not be trying to "make their own", not knowing how much they may or may not help. No one is giving them gloves, hand sanitizer, etc. They must find a way to but these items on what is practically a Made in China black-market these days.
We are on our own. Dog eat dog so to speak.
SHAME ON YOU AMERICA FOR ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN BY ALLOWING THE RICH AND THE CORRUPT TO STEAL, OWN AND RULE THIS LAND ONCE AGAIN FROM THE VERY PEOPLE THAT CARE FOR IT!

(20,870 posts)She has been writing to me since the lockdown there began. We've been comparing notes -- no masks there either. She said they are "like gold" and calls dump "That nutter!".
I believe she lives in Co. Kildare, but not certain.
I have a link alright -- asleep in the other room is her uncle!

(24,497 posts)The other 50%
10% wonder where Trump is taking them.
80% are clueless/apolitical, but like guns.
10% are pure anti-socialists and are willing to start a fight they will lose awesomely.

(18,654 posts)It has been presented as absolute fact that the vast majority of guns in this country are owned by trumpers, white wing racists and militia types living in their mommy's basement- collectively known as gun humpers.
There are a few liberals who own a couple of guns for hunting (usually with the caveat that they were inherited and have not been used for years) and even fewer who indicate they have firearms that they actually use for hunting, target shooting or self defense. This last group is usually eyed suspiciously as probable gun humpers
