L.A. County stay-at-home order likely to be extended through July to fight coronavirus

Los Angeles County’s stay-at-home orders will “with all certainty” be extended for the next three months, county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer acknowledged during a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.

Ferrer said that would only change if there was a “dramatic change to the virus and tools at hand.”

“Our hope is that by using the data, we’d be able to slowly lift restrictions over the next three months,” she said. But without widely available therapeutic testing for the coronavirus or rapid at-home tests that would allow people to test themselves daily, it seems unlikely that restrictions would be completely eased.

Ferrer made the comments as the board debated whether to extend the county’s eviction moratorium for one to three months.

1. That's going to put hundreds of thousands,

if not millions of folks at risk here of food shortages, and financial hardships. All those little businesses that have been hanging on will likely close forever. People who have been hoping to return to their same old jobs will find them eliminated.

What do they do now? I will probably do OK as long as my health is stable. I don't have any big bills to pay, just utilities and food. I'll survive.

In my little rural town northeast of LA, we have a mom and pop market still open, but if they quit it's a 20 mile trip to town. I'm sure some of my neighbors don't have gas money, or maybe their car was repoed, how will they survive?

The school free lunch program is still going and they deliver food for the kids to the feed store that has a big walk in cooler. My 2 little nephews get breakfast and lunch. Their dad's business isn't on the essential list so he isn't bringing in any money, and their mom had her low wage job cut to just one day a week. I worry they could lose the house or the heavy equipment he needs for his business. What can they do?

I understand, and I'm not opposed to it, but it will be very difficult to recover after this prolonged waiting period. The state and federal governments are going to have to come up with some long term, sustainable financial aid programs for people with no, or reduced incomes.

Trump won't do it, he refuses to help anyone besides his fellow wealthy aristocrats. We need Joe Biden in the White House to be sure that the people who really need help can get it quickly and easily. Whatever pittance of money the poor and the working class have in their pockets to spend, will be the only source we have to move the economy forward even if it's at a snail's pace.

and live there.

like Ventura, Orange County etc to do business.

7. The news was showing an hour and a half waiting line

to buy flowers on Mother’s Day in the downtown flower district. Many with no masks.

We had to return a clothing item at Jack’s in Huntington Beach and the beach area was swarmed, hardly any masks. Even a city parking attendant wasn’t wearing a mask.

It seemed like people were anticipating their freedom again and now this. It’s going to be hard to expect people to adhere to three more months of this.

8. The last I heard Oregon's Stay At Home policy

is going to be until July 6th.

My daughter and her family live in Portland.. they want to do what is required to help make this thing go away.
