According to deputies, the attack stemmed from the suspect getting upset that the victim didnt thank him for holding the door open. The victim, who is seen in video released by the sheriffs office wearing a tan-colored hat, told deputies he walked into the liquor store while the suspect held the door open.
The suspect, who is seen wearing a black and gray shirt and a black hat, then reportedly asked, you dont say thank you to people who hold the door open for you? The victim said he responded, saying thank you.
But apparently that wasnt enough, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. Because our now suspect, who was originally a gentleman, started jawing back and forth. Thats a Southern vernacular for talking back to each other.
The two men are seen in the video walking to different parts of the liquor store after the initial confrontation. But deputies say the victim claims the suspect then continued to express his anger from another aisle.
According to the victim, the suspect told him, Ill kick your [butt] if you say another word. The victim told deputies he replied by saying, another word.
Thats when deputies say the suspect quickly approached the victim and started attacking.
The previous Southern gentleman who held the door open whos now the suspect promptly was good for his word, Sheriff Judd said. Because he walked around the aisle and started beating him up.

(12,388 posts)There must be a clue here somewhere about why this kind of behavior couldve possibly occurred between two otherwise friendly gentlemen.

(66,329 posts)it's largely a myth.
Everybody's got a chip on his shoulder, belligerence is common coin, and toxic is the only kind of masculinity.
And I got off easy. I'm white and Christian. I can't imagine how unbearable it would have been if I hadn't had those two things going for me.

(17,536 posts)would have been if, after being attacked, the victim stomped a mud hole in the attacker's ass.
For those of you who aren't aware, the Deep South part of Florida ends on an East/West line at around Gainesville or Ocala.
The rest of the state, the most highly populated part, is below that line. East of the Apalachicola river is more akin to Georgia, and West of the Apalachicola is more like Alabama than the Florida of palm trees and sunny beaches.
Only 36% or Floridians were born in Florida, so when you read a story that starts, "A Florida man" odds are that you may be talking about a native New Yorker.
