(11,631 posts)I cannot count the number of times I was the exact guy in this video chasing and yelling "Hey hey hey hey... go go go..." as they were devouring the fruit trees in the orchard or grape vines off an arbor or my wife's flowers...

(56,582 posts)I love the idea of some suburban border collie looking out his front door, seeing the goats rampaging, and saying "This is my hour!"

(90,674 posts)Yes, I can definitely see a Border Collie heading out to round up those goats!

(6,584 posts)Goats - gotta love 'em.
They remind me of Otters.
Just eat and play.
We should be so lucky.

(13,569 posts)I lost part of my foot this past winter to an amputation for staph bacteria associated with goats, which I evidently picked up in a nearby park where goats had grazed foliage. Staph "Caprae" -- infiltrated a blister when I walked in some muddy water in the park.

(2,559 posts)The goat owner often will transport the goats to new locations as needed. Usually he puts up bright orange temporary fencing around the location to keep them from wandering off target. I don't know if this is the same operation, but it's not unusual in the Bay Area for such goats to be used for fire management.

(4,544 posts)I'm in northern CA. Our goats are moved around town from April to December (roughly) to eat the weeds and keep the fire hazard down. We love our goats!

(6,523 posts)for weed control. I only have two pigmys. I am thinking of getting two more, but that would be all.
Goats are herd animals. My goats have confused my husky with a herd leader. My husky tells them what's what in no uncertain terms. When I want the goats, I call the dog. The goats stay together, but they follow the dog.
One of the sweet moments in my life is the sight of two goat heads peeking around a corner hoping I have treats for them. They are wary of my husky, who always seeks to control all the food sources, but they are always just a few feet away. They are sweet, gentle animals who eat darn near everything.
I have caught them eating the cardboard boxes that Amazon sends. We compete for those boxes.
