My husband and I received our absentee ballot applications in the mail yesterday. I am divided about voting absentee. There really is no risk to this correct? I don't want to end up like those voters in Wisconsin who's votes were wasted d/t last minute courtroom decisions. I also really do enjoy voting in person. I live in Central NY (not even close to the city).

(6,206 posts)and have voted by mail for decades. It is easy, quick and best of all safe. Doesn't even cost me whatever the going rate for a stamp the state pays by having the envelope already stamped to mail it back in.

(23,155 posts)I don''t know of any other state using this strict signature matching software except FL. So, in my state, if you have aged and your signature changed even a bit and you vote by mail your vote may not be counted (if you are a Dem). You will also not receive the mandatory state letter advising you to come in and affirm you identity. So if you don't live in FL, mail in votes are probably safest. In FL, you will ready to vote first person or risk your vote not being counted. We have early voting, so I'd strongly encourage all FL Dems to vote early and wear a mask & gloves. Early voting doesn't entail strict signature matching and you can vote at any open place, and the lines are short to non-existent. That is the way to ensure your vote counts in FL and avoid hassles.

(25,895 posts)that has people in charge who do their best to discourage voting. Don't think NY is that way.
There are several states that do vote by mail exclusively for all elections, and they have no problems with it and tend to have very high voter turnout. Also, states that have election registration have high turnout.
In any case, it's up to you but your absentee ballot, so long as you mail or drop it off in good time, is at least as safe as going in person.
