"SNIP.....
Norma McCorvey better known as the plaintiff "Jane Roe" from the landmark 1973 Supreme Court ruling legalizing abortion who then later famously converted and became outspoken against abortion, has admitted that her about-face was a lie. It was all an act that was orchestrated and paid for by the anti-abortion movement.
......
The documentary digs into the life of one of the most complex and impactful women of the 20th century, and in the last 20 minutes of the film, Sweeney asks McCorvey: "Did [the evangelicals] use you as a trophy?"
"Of course," she replies. "I was the 'big fish.'"
"Do you think you would say that you used them?"

"I think it was a mutual thing," McCorvey says. "I took their money, and they took me out in front of the cameras and told me what to say. That's what I'd say."

(58,785 posts)Sure, she'd lived a very flawed life before Roe v Wade, but it's not uncommon for such people to turn to religion, poorly as some may understand and live its principles. Though I strongly doubted her integrity, I didn't doubt the conversion itself.
So. Not so stupid as to fall for just religion, belonging, importance and attention after all. Show me the money.
What's it say about me that I actually feel a smidgen of new respect for her?
Faux pas

(1,098 posts)She was a PP clinic director and had a negative review by her PP boss then became 'anti-choice'. She went on a speaking tour making tens of thousands of dollars, had a book written by a ghost writer and then they made a movie about her. She had two abortions herself when it was convenient for her.

(10,828 posts)I always wondered about this 'conversion.' McCorvey's life was pretty ragged from what I've read. When you come to the end of things, money can be a huge seducer. More disgusting IMHO are the Evangelicals willing to use the woman this way, anything to generate PR for the own purposes.
Truth be damned!
So be it for Christian values. No mystery here as to why the Evangelical community is strongly attached to the GOP:
Both will do anything to win.
