GOP senators on Tuesday did not get tested for the coronavirus ahead of a closed-door lunch with President Trump.
Asked if he was tested, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) said "no," before quipping "a test would be good for all of us probably."
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), a member of GOP leadership who walked with Trump out of the lunch, said that he was also not tested. "No," he said. "Nobody did."
Trump's decision to meet with Republicans at the Capitol on Tuesday sparked a myriad of coronavirus related questions.
The White House is taking steps like routine temperature checks to get into the White House complex and before meetings to try to limit the potential spread of the coronavirus. The White House announced last month that individuals in close proximity to Trump or Vice President Pence will be tested.
At the Capitol, staffers have been told to check their temperatures at home. Unlike reporters near Trump, reporters who are talking with lawmakers are not being routinely tested. And lawmakers were told last month that they would only be tested if they were symptomatic.
