My "elder" uncle is in the hospital, but not (yet?) on a ventilator.
When will people get it that this will be with us for a long time and we need to be smart.

(20,868 posts)Very sad situation and yes, you are so right. This is not going anywhere anytime soon. To think otherwise is plain stupid.
Sorry to read abt. you uncle. Take care.
Thanks for the warning btw!

My step-brother's father died last week from COVID complications, as did a co-worker's husband. And two of my middle school students are currently hospitalized. People need to realize that the pandemic is not over just because they are bored or want a haircut.

(853 posts)But anyone that takes medical advice from Trump or his spawn, while I don't necessarily wish ill upon them, is seriously eff'ed in the head. Part of me thinks I'm seeing a change in the wind in the press corp to the deference to the office. There seems to be more "what the hell" is this maroon talking about from the press lately. But then again, there are still a few WH reporters hedging their bets, so to speak, trying to play this out that anything this idjit says should be taken seriously. For those individuals, is the invite to the WH pressroom or briefings really worth sacrificing any integrity you may have?
And unless this virus mutates into something innocuous, which isn't bloody likely, the idea that it's just gonna "disappear" is completely delusional - which seems to be SOP currently in the WH & GOP. This could be around for years. Think the common cold, herpes or AIDs - all viral infections that we have had limited/mixed success in fighting.

(111,254 posts)They're finding many people do as well or better with high flow O2, CPAP or BiPAP, which are all far less invasive. The determining factor is how much CO2 he is retaining.
No, this is not over, not even close.

(1,096 posts)My cousin, who works in a nursing home, also contracted the virus. She is 10 years younger than me. She said that for a while she really didn't think she was going to make it.
I think sooner or later we are all likely to be touched by this plague.
Stay well.
