In response, he'll call out the national guard to maintain order, then declare a national emergency. Chaos will ensue. In the confusion he'll go on television to announce only he can fix things, and he must remain in power to ensure order and stop the carnage.

Mitch McConnell, deeply involved in his own state's recount, will back Trump's play, as will all the other Republicans in the Senate. FOX News and an army of rightwing radio talkers will go on full alert, broadcasting 24/7 for the duration.

Sweet Lyndsey Graham, reeling from his electoral drubbing in South Carolina, will take to the fainting couch, smelling salts in hand. And Susan Collins, fresh off her own loss, will express her deepest concern.

will suddenly discover their backbone and turn on him out of self-preservation. They won’t have developed ethics or a conscience, but it might appear that way superficially; in reality, they will just know that Trump’s departure is happening regardless of what sort of a scene they make and won’t want to be hitched to a loser. They might even figure that invoking the 25th amendment will look good to the electorate next time around.
