All of those dastardly plans of poll watchers (intimidators) and closed polling places would be for naught.

(14,998 posts)Plus it would cause problems for those who would like to be able to mess with electronic voting machines. Paper ballots can be counted and recounted.

(9,232 posts)And I just applied for my absentee ballot (no reason needed anymore) here in PA. Biden is a done deal but I want to vote for the person who will run against Fitzpatrick in PA-01.

3. Out of the area during voting period (which is kind of tricky because we have 10 days of early voting including a full 7 to 7 Saturday and Sunday from 11 - 5)
I was amazed that Texas offers so many opportunities to vote.
Tuesday a Federal District Judge ordered that any voter may request VBM application using fear of catching Corona Virus if voting in person. Bonus: after the voter returns the application, every ballot for the rest of the year will be sent to him/her. The lawsuit was aimed at sending a voter application to every registered voter in Texas, but we did well to get this adjustment.
Texas Democratic Party has been sending VBM applications to every qualified voter who can be recognized as a Democratic voter or potentially a Democratic voter. The only way we can identify a voter as a Democrat is their voting history for Democratic primaries. There are other factors which allow the statistical program to identify "leaning Democrats". Also there are those who never vote in primaries so they are anyone's guess and I am not sure if those voters are included Anyway, our applications and ballot mailings are increasing with every election. I think this started in 2014.
The beauty of this is the voter does not have to remember in January to request the application. We are over 65 and received applications in plenty of time to return them to have ballots for the primary We are both election judges, and we can vote at any voting center in the county so we have not sent it in March. However, I saved them in case we need them; I am glad I did. My husband is not working elections this year so we can send his in and he will get ballots for the upcoming runoff and the general in November.

(7,358 posts)If vote by mail is ever going to happen, this will be the year.
Don't we Americans get to decide how we vote?
Trump is making his paper-thin case and acting like it's his decision.

OK, beside the fact that it would maybe hurt Bezos a little...
It's because Moscow Mitch and the rest of Putin's cretins want to totally fuck over the November election.

(22,119 posts)USPS was slapped with that requirement to prepay pensions and benefits 75 years into the future, and complete the payment in 15 years. If not for that, USPS would be turning a profit. Congress passed this in late 2006 during the Lame Duck period when Republicans still had control of Congress.
This was all part of the long game to break up USPS, destroy the largest Federal Union and sell off mail service. FedEx and UPS would be in the game but there are undoubtedly other corporate shills out there salivating over the opportunity to have the mail contract for a region and jack prices up so they could make money. I predict we would see several entities bidding for the rights to handle mail in a particular region.
My father must be rolling in his grave over this
DFT and his Mondo Destructo cabinet have been itching to damage USPS from day one.

(14,154 posts)I think they have and are already creating plans for November. Collusion with Republican Governors about shutting polling stations, reducing hours for voting. Eliminating brown and black sounding last names. Even have a few Russian hackers all set to steal votes from machines.
..oh wait. That was last time. Scary to think of all the new methods they are planning to add to their subterfuge.
But I think that's why Trump is freaking out so much.

(22,119 posts)it will be very hard in Texas. Our legislature will not meet again until 2021. Every state will more than likely have different rules regarding who can change election law.
Here in Tarrant County, every precinct will either have a voting center or be combined with one or two adjacent precincts if all of them are lower population precincts. The voting center for my precinct also includes the next precinct south of us and it is a very convenient location; these two precincts have been voting together for at least 22 years, which is how long we have been voting there.
I can't imagine the county reducing voting locations in November; we have not done so in the past, even for dinky local elections with really low turnout. Voters may go to any voting location in the county on Election Day, and there are 45 early voting stations.
We have a runoff coming up and locations might be combined for it. If I recall correctly, each county makes its own plan, not the state.
