Almost 4 years out, dangerously prescient.

(2,517 posts)I get those election night knots in my stomach again because so many of us (all of us?!?) on here fucking knew this to be the case and it sure as hell looks like Engel is correct.

(10,162 posts)He was merely reporting what everyone else abroad already knew four years ago. What still shocks me most is how negligent our own domestic media was in their reporting about Trump when it mattered most. Coporate media wanted Trump to be competetive, no matter what the consequences. I don't buy for a second they were unaware of Trump's tendencies, it was just good for ratings.

(13,776 posts)Wow. Its weird to see them, three and a half years ago, sitting around a desk talking about what that election could mean. Half of me is watching it as I must have watched it then, hoping that what he was predicting couldnt possibly happen to the United States, and half of me is watching it now, wondering how they kept themselves from rending their garments and gnashing their teeth, because everything he said turned out to be absolutely true.
I just cannot believe the timeline were in and I cant wait for normality to be restored, or at least to be able to watch the news and not have that this cannot be real life feeling all the time.

(3,266 posts)I knew it would be bad, but I never imagined the onslaught of corruption and bad governance that we've endured. And that's just what's made it to the light of day. Can you imagine? Can you just imagine the corrupt shit that's going on that we DON'T know?

(34,374 posts)Americans, including possibly you and me. And people thought he was joking about shooting somebody on 5th Avenue and the cult would still love him. I underestimated his evil incompetence, the republican's complete abrogation of their oath to uphold the Constitution and to protect the citizens who elected them, and the cult's utter lack of humanity and basic human decency. This meme says it all for me:

(58,647 posts)just paying attention. Mr Engel has his pulse on the international scene, has for a lot of years. His opinion is better informed than ours, maybe, but the only thing amazing about that prediction is that a talking head actually said it out loud on air.

(2,668 posts)is that nobody else at the table really heard him or cared.
The right wing owned "liberal" media could have stopped him. Even when Pelosi and crew had him dead to rights, the Media said oh divided country/senate oh he walks free.

(90,646 posts)...Trump's election. I couldn't see them all in this clip, but I did see Nicolle.
I will never, ever, forget Trump's Carnage in America speech when he became president-elect. Two of NBC's conservative commentators sat in the darkened hall afterward and talked about what a tragic day this was for our republic. Nicolle Wallace and Steve Schmidt showed real depth that night -- of patriotism, heart, knowledge of our history, and knowledge of our Constitution. Steve choked back tears when he talked about the Constitution. They felt it as deeply as Richard Engel, and still do.
Not all journalists and commentators are the same, not by a long shot.

(30,247 posts)A friend of mine called me the following day and told met that her oldest grandson, who was 7 at the time, was crying. I asked her why, she said that Jacob was worried that Trump would deport his best friend, who was Hispanic. Even young children were aware that Trump was a terrible person.

(30,247 posts)I've never been so disappointed in this country like I was that night. I couldn't believe that a POS like Trump was the new president. I don't find one redeemable quality in the miscreant.

(2,590 posts)I told my wife it was a silent coup and felt punched in the stomach. To this day, MSM has to know what a complete abomination his administration is to our country and am incredulous that more are not speaking out. At times I feel that the powers at be know that the coming climate crisis will make this appear to be a spring day. November cannot get here fast enough, and yet I do believe the reThuglicans will get more dastardly each day between now and then. We need to fight fire with fire.

But....I loves me some Richard Engel. He's awesome. He's fearless. He's not hard to look at, either!
