44. Get Tough was a good manual. Early in my 20's, I practiced with sticks, canes and staffs.

They are very deadly and if you use a cane, people are quite unaware of the pain that can be inflicted.

Once, at a seaside bar in St. Petersburg Florida, some drunken dude much bigger than myself tried to take me out (I was hammered, stupid and in his way), granted he was drunk, but a simple straight knife hand to his throat took him down. It was only after the fact (sober) that I realized I could have caused some serious damage (death) if I had used my full sober strength. It really does not take that much force to crush the larynx and should only be used if the desired result is to end it permanently.

What this OP is talking about here is not something that, in my opinion, requires the use of Defendu or Jujitsu to handle, although it is kind of cathartic to discuss. If someone spits on me, or coughs on me, do I use a technique designed to kill as a response?

I realize I would be angry and most likely desirous of lashing out as defense.

To be clear, I am not a violent person, anymore. I do not advocate violence. Those days are long behind me, I am older and hopefully wiser. I prefer to try and talk it out and see if there is any shred of decency in the person. This new world where people are spitting and coughing on people has me quite concerned as I will be wearing a mask and goggles for quite some time here in a very red part of Houston.

I hope I can keep my cool if something like this happens. If all else fails, I still have my cane...
