(137 posts)I know it seems odd but it's true, I worked for Head Start a number of years. I was surprised when I learned HS wasn't a part of the Education Dept.

While opening these programs in Miami-Dade is a decision that ultimately lies with the district and the mayor, theres pressure from Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to resume them on June 8, which begs the question, who is really in charge of Florida

(137 posts)A large number of HS programs are located in public schools as a means to get more funding and opportunities for disadvantaged kids and families. Schools are usually looking for ways to increase pre-k numbers and HS provides that avenue. I will add this how it works in the part of Texas I live in. Most HS programs are suppose to be built around community needs.
