Happy that so far no dem govs have swallowed Trump's church bait

Yesterday, he demanded churches be opened immediately and said he'd "override" governors who refused. In addition to the fact that he almost certainly does not have the power to do that, his intentions were pretty clear. He wants to start a culture war with Dem governors by having them defy him so that he can fashion himself as the champion of religion.

But no one took the bait. They wisely ignored him and just kept doing the things they have planned toward reopening. I am hoping that continues.

Interestingly, I also didn't hear a peep from any church leaders backing Trump up. Just maybe they don't want to kill their congregants.

Rachel Maddox had a powerful discussion on opening churches. So many are sick and dying from church contact.

2. Govs know he has no power, but more importantly many of these church leaders do too...

In making his childish demands sans either the authority or health justification for doing so, he only shows this to be a stunt and in doing so, his ultimate and pathetic WEAKNESS.

4. It's the profiteers that are probably privately asking him to make them open up

the ones who use the donations for private planes, mansions, vacations etc.

i wouldn't care if they all infected each other but my problem is their putting others at risk, especially health care workers when they do get sick.

7. Most churches closed on their own

It would be far preferable if people in general stopped taking this stupid bait that governors “closed the churches”.

People have the memory of fruit flies. With the exception of butter churches, most “normal” churches were concerned about their members’ health without anyone telling them what to do.

Stop buying into this juvenile framing.

My daughter-in-law's grandmother is a devout Catholic. I asked her about how her grandmother was handling things, and she told me that at first they had church in their cars in the parking lot, and now they're going to have mass every day, but for only 10 at a time, with the mask requirements and distancing. They have to register to go. My daughter-in-law said she can just imagine that they'll have to tell her grandmother that she has to allow others some spots too.....that she shouldn't go to every single mass.

I just love her (the grandmother)! She's just a hoot! And she's also just a very good person.

9. And I suspect that if churches were to reopen back up, some of the congregation would question
Sat May 23, 2020, 09:24 AM

why they go there. I would question why this church is in my neighborhood etc., putting the rest of the neighborhood at risk (basically telling the rest of us to go to Hell etc.). Not very neighborly.

People are not going to listen or pay attention and will still go out, regardless if they sick or not. I just read the case about one Great Clips hair stylist who continued to work, despite having of the telltale signs of having the CV. 91 people were exposed to the CV (Spfd MO) and the state of MO already said that resources from tracing this one case were straining the state's resources.

Yeah, man, open the economy back up! I want my haircut!

Put those minimum wage workers who need the money back to work and give me my haircut!

And I'm not knocking this worker only...I'm knocking every one of the 91 customers too, now each and every one of them will go out forth from Springfield MO infecting all (hint, Branson MO too, as well as the entire SW die hard republican area of MO). I'm going to keep an eye out on this, for this has the possible impact of spreading CV infections far beyond the borders of MO, being that Spfd MO is kind of a 'family' town w/ Branson MO, with all of the music shows down there too, etc.

10. trumps so desperate he's threatening churches now

To reopen or what? I suspect he'll threaten them claiming they will be taxed if they don't do as he demands , even if he could do it or not, but to use to intimidate , and install fear against going against him. Religious leaders should call him out for doing this, or he will get worse and escalate his ways he can hurt them. He does this also to divide people with these tactics. He enjoys pitting people, Americans , against each other, then he stands back and fans the flames .
