Instructions are to take cover away from windows preferably in a basement to avoid flying debri, hale and lightning.
I choose to proceed with my back yard barbecue instead.
Nobody is going to take away my freeDUMB.

(118,642 posts)There was a tornado warning in Ottawa-Gatineau last year. I was having dinner at my dad's. My cell phone warning went off. I looked out the window and saw a tornado miles away. I took a picture of it. Pointed it out to everyone.
Turns out the tornado warning came from Gatineau. Someone saw a funnel cloud descending there. I was near Gatineau but in ottawa. The Tornado i was looking at was miles away in Orleans on the ottawa side. They did not get the warning and, because i just assumed they were being warned, i did not call 911 to report it. And the people of Orleans did not get a warning. I felt bad about that when i realized the role i could have played. I didn't think anyone died but if you see one descending or on the ground: call.

(65,010 posts)Around 3pm.
Didn't even rain here.
Then 90 minutes later it poured. Sun can out. Rained again. Now sun is out.
Been a rollercoaster for the last 4 hours!

(65,010 posts)...of around 6k, there are actually 6 trained spotters living here.
2 are EMTs with the FD.
I'm guessing these weather heads will report it long before I'd even see it.
These guys are way into weather & storms.
One actually takes a week of vacation time to volunteer in OJ and KS to chase and do research on tornadoes.
That's commitment.
BTW: weather pros in Chicago think we're done with severe weather for the night. I think we'll be OK!

I'm not going out looking for the tornado!
I rely on the trained experts!
