Support Doug Jones in the general election?
Or does he plan of defecting to Russia by then.

It's the trainwreck that keeps on giving.

(15,100 posts)My understanding is that Alabama hates Auburn - the school where Tuberville used to coach.
So are we looking at a potential Senate seat save for Doug Jones?
That would be so sweet!

(13,870 posts)The state is split down the middle - half hate Bama, half hate Auburn.
In my hometown cemetery, some graves have flowers with Auburn colors and some graves have flowers with Alabama colors.
That said, I dont think voters will base their decision totally on the college connection.

(7,417 posts)It's more like 3-to-1 Alabama fans to Auburn fans. And there's plenty of Bama fans pulling the lever for Tuberville because Trump says so.
Aside from the election of Doug Jones -- an extreme outlier in which he barely squeaked by a known theocrat, disgraced jurist and teen girl predator -- most of the time you can ask what the worst course of action would be and depend on Alabama voters to choose that.
So in this runoff, they can choose between a law school graduate, former U.S. attorney who spent decades in the U.S. Senate, or they can vote for a former football coach who earned a reputation for laziness, lying, running out on fan bases and players and was actually a defendant in a financial fraud case.
They'll choose the second of those candidates.
When the fraudster faces off in the general election against another former lawyer with a good record in court, who earned a rating as one of the three most right-leaning centrist U.S. Senators in the Democratic Party, then the citizens of Alabama will choose the fork-tongued gridiron grifter. I've seen this play out too many times.

(54,378 posts)Trump will probably refuse to set foot in Alabama to help him campaign, and thereby, unfortunately, help Sessions' chances greatly.
