A Missouri mayor has expressed concern after seeing images of a crowded pool party by the Lake of the Ozarks amid the coronavirus pandemic, but lamented that there is no way to shut down such activities.
John Olivarri, mayor of the small town of Osage Beach situated on the edge of the Lake of the Ozarks, made the remarks on Sunday as videos of the crowded event circulated online.
"My concern is for our workers and whether some of the folks that have come down might be creating a health problem for the community, absolutely," Olivarri said, The Kansas City Star reported. "But the only other thing that you could do would be shut it down. I don't know how you would shut down Lake of the Ozarks. There's no way to control that."
Newsweek has reached out to Missouri's Governor Mike Parson, a Republican, and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for comment.

(13,903 posts)For have to live under tyranny of the states, these folks don't seem to have any problems showing up armed to state houses, being able to spread bee ess on FB, lie about the reality of the situation, sue when they are offended and slighted, have block parties, swarm to the beaches and boardwalks, fill up stores, and just generally whine about the liberals.
People are going to do what they want. If they aren't afraid they will bunch up. If they are afraid they whine and b*tch but do so safely in their homes whilst binging on Netflix.

(10,051 posts)Can't think of a way to control that? You lack any common sense or imagination, but I bet someone else in your office could come up with all sorts of solutions. What a lazyass answer.

(790 posts)if those pool partyers had looked sufficiently different from Olivarri, my guess is he'd be singing a different tune

(10,051 posts)There was a marina there, why is it I suspect there is fencing and a guard somewhere to ensure their precious boats are not vandalized, thus a way to limit the amount of access. I have been hearing all these folks saying oh the beaches are too long, we can't patrol them. Have these people never heard of drones?? They could hover over those not adhering to rules until the law can get there to remove them. The media is using drones to show the crowding or empty beaches but these idiots cannot figure out how to use them for crowd control?

(22,114 posts)there are tons of hotels etc. all along the strip there in Osage Beach etc. I would think that the hotel should bear more responsibility for allowing the crowds there, as well as still filling in the pools etc. Tourism dollars over lives, eh? The state and/or county police probably had more resources available to them to handle the influx but w/ our republican governor, I doubt he would have done anything.
