Hundreds participate in, watch South Carolina boat parade in support of Trump
By Aris Folley - 05/25/20 05:21 PM EDT
A boat parade held in support of President Trump in South Carolina over the Memorial Day weekend drew hundreds of boaters and viewers.
According to local CBS-affiliate WCSC, the event, dubbed the MAGA boat parade in reference to Trumps Make America Great Again campaign slogan, was held in Charleston harbor on Sunday.
A Facebook page set up for the event said over 700 people indicated plans to attend the parade.
In footage of the event that has emerged online, scores of boaters, many whom were not wearing masks, could be seen sailing with Trump 2020 flags. One boat had what appeared to be a life-size cut-out of the president.
Some boaters also held signs reading phrases like, If we followed rules, wed still be British. Liberty is essential.

(54,369 posts)I go there every New Year's, and I don't know a ONE who lives there and likes Trump.
Hell, I know a former Republican governor of the State, and even HE doesn't like Trump!

(171,059 posts)a MAGA parade. That's what all these folks signed up for, entailing getting their boats on the water and flying their maga flags. I think they're fans, though I don't understand why in the slightest other than the south being republican.

(54,369 posts)I know people from waiters to taxi drivers to at least one Charleston millionaire, and NONE of them can STAND the Donald.
Not one person I know from Charleston is a rump supporter.

(9,291 posts)I lived there for 20 years, and I hated it. My oldest daughter lives in West Ashley, and I feel sad for her.
Its a awful state. Trump fans galore.

(54,369 posts)But don't forget, I live 4500 miles from there. When I go, I can pick the people I hang with. I'm only there for one week out of the year. Why waste it with Trumpanzees?

(226 posts)I live in the low country...Charleston has a pocket of progressive and in this case sane people..we elected Joe Cunningham in 2018..with a good turnout from the african american voters in the district...but that's Charleston..the surrounding area is as entrenched in the trump cult as they are still with the confederacy..they are your boat parade....

(54,369 posts)I go there for a special gathering that takes place every New Year's, and never get outside the city unless I need stuff from the Guitar Center in North Charleston, and then I head right back downtown when I'm done there. No Trumpanzees at the Guitar Center, either.

(16,616 posts)It's the sunk cost fallacy in Behavioral Economics. They are too deeply invested now to admit they were stupid enough to get on the "Trump Train" to begin with, especially with two thirds of the population telling them this from day one. It would simply be unthinkably embarrassing.

(25,242 posts)I wonder how many of the boats were big Cabin Cruisers that the wealthy show off on? Not many poor people can afford a boat these days - a hole in the water you throw money down.
