Drive trump crazy. Let trump continue to write and star in all the campaign ads and Super PAC ads. Joe can do sit down interviews that lean more toward a 60 Minutes style interview.
Let trump continue to show everyone what a total clown and child he is and Joe sits back looking like it's already his office and he will soon be coming off the mountain to claim it.

(10,885 posts)No big rallies, no exhaustive travel, millions of $$ saved. Instead if reaching thousands at rallies, reach millions with the TV interviews. All Joe would have to do is stay calm, stay focused, and look presidential.

(2,120 posts)...and end all of campaigns, but it might work against Trump. In 1896 William McKinley took advice from his campaign manager Marc Hanna and stayed home and campaigned from his home in Ohio. The "Front Porch Campaign" had the media coming to him and gave his message a clarity that people liked. I would love to see Biden try it and expect him to do something low key, appropriate for our current situation and made to goad Trump into over-reacting, you know, as usual.
McKinley did raise a lot of money during his campaign, but used the dough to advertise and bring people to Dayton, Ohio to hear him speak. If Joe was letting it be known that he was forgoing a campaign trip to, say, Florida or Ohio and was instead sending a contribution to emergency workers in that state, I think it would be monumental.

(5,126 posts)Not that it changes your point any, but McKinley conducted his front porch campaign from his home in Canton, not Dayton. McKinley's name is very prominent in Canton. The Football Hall of Fame game is played on the same field used by the McKinley High School football team
I like the idea of Biden running a front porch campaign.

(2,120 posts)....that I grew up in Cleveland and should have gotten it right. But, like so many people in Cleveland fifty years ago, the rest of the state was, in our minds, fairly inconsequential. Canton (up there near Akron someplace) and Dayton (down there between Columbus and Cincinnati someplace), was as much as we knew. My error really was more of a misstatement than an error of memory, as I've visited McKinley's Tomb and know that it not in Dayton. I left Ohio fifty years ago this October but still have family back there, most of whom love Donald Trump. Please do all you can to help turn your fellow Ohioans away from the dark side this fall.

(5,704 posts)I totally agree. DU has changed so much that I cannot understand how to respond to the original poster. I typed a long message stating that it is a bad idea for VP Biden to sit back and expect that he would be a shoo in. It would be a repeat of 2016!
VP Biden needs to use all the social media possible to reassure Americans and the world that he plans to reform America to its former glory after this swamp rat reign.

(58,785 posts)A big majority who vote already choose Biden to restore stability and wellbeing, and his very long coattails are expected to help sweep many other Democrats into office and perhaps even gain control of the senate.
On the other side, the Republicans' destructive nihilism has already solidified commitment among a solid majority of voters to vote Democrat, and we're leveraging it as a giant national GOTV for wobblies and nonvoters. We WANT the media to focus the nation on the Republicans' failures, betrayals, craziness, crimes, and of course national disasters.

(5,704 posts)That is the worst suggestion ever. The entire 50 States will feel abandoned if VP Biden sat still and not campaign for their votes and to hammer home how incompetent this occupier of the White House is!
Lets not forget how fooled we were in 2016 when we thought a toad would win against the current occupier, and the swamp rat ded .
Night after night, Kornacki (sp) assumed Mrs. Clinton would be the winner.9
Given the current situation, VP Biden needs social media to inform Americans and the world that this cockroach has to go in order to reform America as President Obama left it. I have no idea why the talking heads are not reminding Americans that trump inherited a vibrant economy from President Obama. What has trump done to improve the economy except to rescind many of Obamas policies and he looks like an asshole holding up his signature for the cameras, reminds me of a toddler who used the potty for the first time.
America is in crisis and VP Biden needs mega help with social media to get his policies across. I am not sure if being elected is incumbent on his VP pick but I hope he picks someone who is well known but not for political expediency. Im thinking Elizabeth Warren.

(25,478 posts)town, village, post office, train stop, suburb of swing states to campaign and kiss everyone's butt and be out there every second of every day and that's why she lost.
Trump was out there showing everyone what a total clown and child he is and it didn't matter. But Joe Biden is a guy.

(58,785 posts)the OP could be delivering a slur on Biden (sorry RB TexLa), but a brief search put that to rest.
Electoral conditions have changed so dramatically in four years of nihilistic national destruction, national decline, unmet crises, and giant disasters, from traitorous election subversion to pandemic disease. Apples and oranges...somewhat.
Of course if Hillary were running now, campaigning-from-basement-while-female would be widely characterized as weakness and failure to reach the voters that was sure to lose the election. At least we're not listening to that in quarantine.

(5,557 posts)no old school bus tours and a million handshakes, those days are gone. If anything can be learned from our turbulent primary, is that media and message matter most. Joe won states he never visited, and did it through media presence and simply being the right candidate.
He should stick to planned speeches and media appearances. This reduces the covid-19 threat and also downplays his weakness with public speaking. We know his stuttering problem and how he works around it by changing wording on the fly, which is what results in his sometimes awkward turns of phrase.
