They held a public execution - in full view of the public. That is called a lynching.
Fuck this racism.

Justice applied unequally is no justice at all. Cop or no cop, you murder someone, you should be going to prison.

These trials belong in the Federal courts, where prosecutors that aren't friends with the cops can make every effort and give an honest prosecution, not a half-assed prosecution. We need to start putting these psychopaths with badges behind bars. It's not enough to dock them pay or put them behind a desk or even, in this case, fire them. Not enough.
EDIT: The people who saw that murder, who tried to beg the cops to stop, are going to be traumatized for life too.

(10,167 posts)The video shows one officer leading the handcuffed man onto the sidewalk, sitting him down, then the video ends. The short clip clearly shows an already-handcuffed Floyd walking peacefully next to the cop, taking orders and sitting down on the sidewalk without resisting.

(10,167 posts)NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, the cop who murdered Eric Garner on video while he repeatedly cried "I can't breathe," was not indicted by the local grand jury, and the DOJ later refused to file any federal charges. It took NYC five years to finally fire Pantaleo. At least these four were immediately fired, but their police union will probably try to get them reinstated.

Even had a cop call and apologize to me. Turned out he had other complaints on top of mine and the chief also told me because of them he was no longer eligible for a promotion. Must have got his attention.

(511 posts)these things will continue as always. Most of these murderers get paid time off after the killings, media coverage dies down, then back on the force. Even if they get let go, they go across town and get another police officer job. And most of the trials are a farce at state level. Even if the family wins a civil suit, the tax payers are the only ones who pay the price for the evil behavior of these jack booted thugs. Laws need to change to hit them in their own pockets. Watch how fast they think twice about killing people when that retirement fund's in jeopardy.

(8,914 posts)I'm curious what prompted the take down.
George Floyd was already in handcuffs based on this video when he was
escorted by 2 officers across the street.
That appears to be the location of the take down, and this video doesn't show that.
But it does show that he didn't resist arrest in the video.
What happened in the area where video can't see, I don't know what happened.

Also, if it was currency, did George Floyd know he was passing on counterfeit currency?
If I have a counterfeit $100 bill at the bank, they test it, and if it is counterfeit, the keep the bill
I'm out $100 dollars and if I remember I tell them where I got it.
This only happened to me at an ATM. I was putting $600 into my account.
The ATM said I only have $500, so I requested my money back. It only gave me $500.
So I reported the error to the bank, and they started an investigation and deposited my
$500.
I was told later, that one of my $100 bills was flagged as counterfeit.
Didn't know the ATM's could determine counterfeit, or the bank lied to me and
didn't want to give up my $100.

(8,817 posts)but the thing that is hard to duplicate is the paper. That is why good counterfeiters bleach one dollar bills and print twenties.
A good bank teller can feel the difference when counting out a stack of bills without even looking at the bills.
The Secret Service confiscates the counterfeit bill, so if a merchant doesn't want the loss, they know their bank may catch it when they try to deposit it, so they send out one of their employees to spend it. Or the owner goes out drinking that night in a dark crowded bar and spends it on booze........
I thought I would photo copy a Topographical Map on my computer printer......it wouldn't print most of it which was green.
My son told me that they do that intentionally so that kids can't photo copy the legitimate bills green color.......
The history channel or one of those programs had an hour long program on the U.S. Secret Service and counterfeit US money......
Fascinating. Basically, it showed why the larger bills get revised so often. The counterfiters master copying the new bills so quickly, the U.S. Gov't has to keep changing to stay ahead of the bad guys......
The best place to spend counterfeit is overseas since they don't know what a real U.S. bill looks like.......

I heard something on Minnesota Public Radio a mention of that in passing (the $20 bill story), but I can't tell you whether it was a journalist, a guest on a show, I just wasn't that situationally aware.
I did a quick Google of "George Floyd forgery dollar bill" and got these two from news stations that I'm not familiar with (the first is a channel 3 station in California, the other is a news talk station in Wilmar, MN)

Anyway, again, if this is the "forgery", I've got to emphasize again that I get lots of $20's from ATMs and never look at them since I wouldn't know what to look for unless it was Monopoly money or something, and just spend them.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone's heard anything definite.
As an aside, I've been to the Conga Latin Bistro where he worked as a security guard (some story said he worked there 5 years), and the news had an interview with the owner of the Conga talking about how he was very good at his job, knew how to talk to people, always doing things for others, etc. Never saw him, I was generally there in the early happy hour or even before where it was empty except for me and my friend (it's more of a dinner and night club place, not a happy hour place).

That said no one is supposed to be lynched for bad money.

(10,904 posts)form that I thought he should be punished in any way.
Rather, the precise exact opposite -- if what he did was spend a $20 bill that turned out to be counterfeit, what I keep saying over and over (sorry) is that it could have happened to me and the vast majority of people who don't have the special equipment and expertise to check out the cash they get before they spend it.
And again, I'm glad that you check out your money -- the more people who do that, obviously the sooner these things are taken out of circulation. And of course wisely keeping yourself from innocently getting into trouble.
Anyway, I posted my response initially with the hope that maybe somebody who has heard definitely one way or another if the "forgery" was spending a $20 bill. I don't think his reputation should be besmirched by this "forgery" label if all he did was spend a $20 bill that he very probably didn't know was bad.
We can't undo his execution, but at least maybe the media would stop saying forgery forgery forgery.
Anyway, thanks much for the discussion

When I first saw the video of George Floyd being stepped on, STEPPED ON by this scumbag of a "public safety officer," my eyes started watering out of sadness. But then those tears turned to rage at this asshole, literally choking the life out of Mr. Floyd, with his hands in his pockets like it was no big deal.
I wanna see this cop thrown in jail for life (he'd be getting off lightly IMO). This kind of behavior, which has been emboldened by Donald Fucking Trump and his KKKlan of mouth-breathing white assholes, just makes everything feel wrong in the world.
I have faith that someday racism will end, but why the hell is it taking so long and how many more must die???
