'Sorry, no mask allowed': Some businesses pledge to keep out customers who cover their faces

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/05/28/masks-not-allowed-coronavirus/

Kevin Smith, owner of the Liberty Tree Tavern in Elgin, Tex., put up a sign banning customers from wearing face masks inside his bar. (Liberty Tree Tavern)

By Teo Armus

May 28, 2020 at 7:11 a.m. EDT

For 64 days, Kevin Smith had shut down the Liberty Tree Tavern to comply with government orders. Now he was cleaning and disinfecting and removing stools to cut seating by three-quarters as he prepared to reopen the bar.

Plexiglass screens had gone up at the supermarket checkout. His neighbors in Elgin, Tex., were still wearing masks outside, even after it was no longer mandated by the county. He did not think such a response was necessary, he said, and he wanted to push back.

“Sorry, no mask allowed,” read the poster taped to the front door of his bar Friday. “Please bare with us thru the ridiculous fearful times.”

As statewide coronavirus orders are easing, many stores and restaurants nationwide have taken the opposite route: They have made face coverings a requirement, kicking out those who fail to comply and even going to court to enforce their directives.

Yet in the emergent culture war over masks, a handful of businesses — the Liberty Tree Tavern among them — are fashioning themselves as fortresses for the resistance.

“If we’re only allowed to be at 25 percent capacity, I want them to be the 25 percent of people that aren’t p-----, that aren’t sheep,” Smith told The Washington Post. “Being scared all the time isn’t good for your health. It suppresses your immune system.”

</snip>

Perhaps they were dropped on their heads as babies? I mean, this kind of stupid had to have a leg up in becoming that stupid.

And I'll use the social media to spread the word to as many friends and acquaintances as possible.

In this particular instance, I don't feel the need to visit Elgin, TX, which isn't all that far from my residence. I trust this little bar will attract some of the trump faithful during these "ridiculous fearful times." Have at it, folks.

I hardly believe that you’re suppressing your immune system in any quantifiable manner by wearing a mask when you got to the store for an hour or two once or twice a week for the next year or two.

Me personally, I’m 40 and my immune system is well adapted at this point in my life. Being cautious for a year or so will not change that.

As far as being called “sheep” for wearing a mask, these guys are just as much “sheep” for following their fox news bullshit.

Ok not to get deep into just the pure nonsense of the "sheep" bullshit. But if those wearing masks are sheep, those refusing to wear masks are also sheep, just guided in different directions.

I rather be guided by the Shepherd (Science/Information/Facts).

Than by the Wolf! (The Orange Captain Dipshit!).

Sheep - STFU!!!!

It may be that he has made a decision the customers will prefer and his business will benefit. It isn’t one I think to be a wise choice, but it isn’t an establishment that I would patronize in any event.

trying to make to make it worse. Everyday he comes out crazier than the day before trying to be a "dictator" instead of a president. He is doing his best to divide the country during a pandemic instead of trying to unit it.

He has to be voted out of office, along with every republican in D.C. It's time to take our country back for the monster that the Republican Party created, and now can not, and will not try control.

Discriminating against folks with disabilities and conditions who must wear masks.

He can't do this, but I hope he does, and I hope he loses his business.

He's catering to the fears of a very small percentage of the populace, probably not enough folks to keep his little watering hole in business. Especially when they start dropping dead.

Some bars gain name recognition through the horrible things that have happened within their walls over the years, like the Bloody Bucket, the Blind Pig, and other such establishments.

Perhaps he’s looking forward to the day he can rename his place either “The Last Gasp” or “Dead Man Walking.”

Whatever his loopy reasons, I have no intention of patronizing his establishment under current management.

I'm very curious how and where it started.

It's so pervasive it reeks of a disinfo or psych-ops campaign (that will harm Americans since this cohort won't wear masks)
