1. Trump constantly attacks the concept of truth, pushing the idea there's no truth, it's all opinion.

Trump wants us believe entirely different realities exist. He wants us to inhabit a world where we can’t even understand one another when we speak, or even describe what's happening, even though we speak the same language.

3. This is the con job that conservatives have been playing on the media for decades.

You must treat our lies and the opposing party's factually-supported viewpoints as equally valid positions in an unsettled "controversy". If you dare to call out our lies, you are exhibiting liberal bias.

So, to avoid the problem altogether, the media abdicated its role as fact-checker and started presenting all news through the lens of controversy and political tactics. Instead of reporting on policies, we got reporting on the "state of play" -- who lobbed charges at whom, the 'optics' of a certain move by a politician, the 'clouds' over a campaign, polling, and other meta-reporting. No position was any more valid than the other in this view-from-nowhere brand of journalism.

Now the lies have gotten so blatant that media platforms are finally getting pushback and are starting to respond. The right sees this as a threat to their propaganda operation and is going to scream 'bias' and 'censorship' at the top of their lungs because that's what has worked in the past. We must continue to put countervailing pressure on these media platforms so that they do not fold under the conservative assault, as they have done in the past.
