Wow, much more calm situation than the previous rallies there where the armed men stormed into the Capital building. I still don't think assault rifles should be part of a protest.

(13,869 posts)Let's see the assholes start working on a strategy of how to make it illegal for black folks to carry guns, while keeping it an absolute necessity for the good white folks to have as many guns as they can acquire.

(35,300 posts)Every time the prediction is made that the blacks sporting the rifles will be gunned down.
Every time the prediction is wrong.
Six months later, the prediction is back, but reframed as "if blacks were to carry guns, you know how it would go--they'd be gunned down". The response is usually that they *did* carry guns and were *not* gunned down, but nobody wants to hear something other than, "Yup, you're absolutely right--you rock!"
The problem is that contrary evidence just isn't retained.
It's like the tenured faculty member who referred to the knee-on-neck, and said that this *never* happened with white men and, in fact, it couldn't happen with white men. I took that as a challenge. Took 20 seconds to get the search terms to get the millions of copies of the George Floyd picture out of the Google results, but there they were--white men, aged 18-60, either photographed with uniformed-cop knee on the back of their neck and their jaws were ground into the pavement or mug shots with face damage with the news article saying that the facial damage was caused by the intersectionality of the guy's face with pavement resulting from patella-oppression of his neck.
The evidence showing that the respected, widely published faculty member wasn't in the least right wasn't hard to find. But why would anybody interested in showing they're right be interested in evidence that contradicted them? (Which is why we hammer in science classes that the goal of an experiment is to prove the researcher wrong--any untrained idjit is motivated to show that they're right, it takes somebody motivated to seek truth to be interested in disconfirming their own view.)

(13,869 posts)Why did Governor Reagan advocate for and sign a total ban on people carrying loaded guns in public when he was Gov of CA?
Because the Black Panthers were showing up at protests carrying enough guns to definitely qualify as a "well-armed militia," and promising to use them rather than be murdered by the police.
If black and brown people started showing up in public with as many guns as the white racist assholes, maybe middle America will rethink this open carry anytime anywhere nonsense.

I will say the same as I said before- I oppose carrying or displaying guns at a protest. However since it is not illegal where they are they should be allowed to do so as long as they adhere to the law.
where are those members who were advocating for that?
Double standard...
