(53,776 posts)when out to his car and got another $20 from his friend and came back and it was accepted. Makes no sense at all for someone trying to pass a fake bill to go back to the same place to try again. Obviously he didn't know it was counterfeit.
And of course there's no death sentence for passing a counterfeit bill.
And four or more cops show up for 20 friggin' dollars? And a man lost his life?

(19,201 posts)how much right-wing cops value a black man's life. They probably would have done the same thing for $1. With Chauvin's previous record of violating suspect's rights they should lock him up and throw away the key.

(47,427 posts)was on MSNBC and it would appear there is a lot more to this story. Apparently Floyd and Chauvin both worked as bouncers at the same restaurant for 17 years. It would seem that George Floyd was not just a random black man who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were co-workers. Also the new video shows the other three cops very close to Chauvin as he pushed on Floyd's neck for minutes, while telling him to get in the car. Were these four cops out to get Floyd in particular for some reason?

(32,701 posts)deserving of kindness and respect, I'm sure it could have been resolved.
Unfortunately, the kkkops were angry and violent from the beginning.
George Floyd probably died with no information about why he had been detained.

It took 4 cops to look into a call from a merchant clerk about a possible counterfeit bill!
ANY of us could pass-off a counterfeit bill and not know it!!!

(34,069 posts)At least according to the Daily Mail (a right wing source), a store employee called the police alleging that Floyd tried to pay with a fake $20
No idea whether it is true or not - but at least I figured out what the OP was talking about.
mysteryowl
(7,383 posts)Are you accusing me of right wing media? Wrong!
Ms. Toad
(34,069 posts)and I had not heard of a $20 bill being involved in the murders.
I did manage to figure it out - but the only place I found it was in the Daily Mail. I posted the article for anyone else who was similarly stymied by your no-context OP. Unfortunately, since the source was the Daily Mail which I don't use,l without a disclaimer (since a lot of US folks don't recognize it is a RW tabloid).
I have no idea where you got your information - there may well be other sources for the information. I was not making a comment ou your information, merely making sure anyone thinking about following my link to figutre out what the heck you were talking about knew where it would lead

(34,661 posts)20 dollar bill is the most counterfeited followed by the Hundred. That is the main reason for the change in both bills. When the night Cash Auditor found one of these bills, she would just bury the sucker in inside a bundle and let the Bank worry about it . As for the Hundreds, when in doubt ask for a second opinion from a Manager. Bogus twenties are so common.

(7,383 posts)In the two years I worked there, I don't remember any of us noticing a counterfeit bill. We pulled out money that was ragged so it could be mulched.

(34,661 posts)we would have at least one go around with this crap every year. Usually starts outside LA and follows the 15 northward. Our Vegas stores would send out a e blast to every Store in the District as soon as one showed up. Last year they busted a ring working out of a Casino Hotel Room in Mesquite Nevada. They did a pretty good population run until they tried to pass a few at the Casino cage.

(25,512 posts)Last time I visited the States I exchanged money at the bank. When I used twenty dollar bills cashiers always checked them and I wondered why -- was cash money somehow suspicious? Especially at one restaurant. Cashier called over the manager, manager called over someone else. It was embarrassing, felt like a criminal! Got a debit card after that.
In that case I knew it came from the bank and was okay, but what if you get a fake one by accident. I wonder how you could prove you didn't know.

(3,257 posts)The woman in front of me tried to pass a counterfeit $100. The manager politely told her to go back to the bank and tell them. (She said she got it from the ATM.) I made a comment to the manager about how well he handled that and he said it was the 3rd counterfeit $100 that day. He just didnt accept it and life went on. There was no reason for this to happen. This is just awful.

I work as a cashier and have to hold up $50 and $100 bills to see a hologram. I don't know if police would be involved if there were no hologram, e.g., the bill would be confiscated, and the customer asked to pay in another form.
