They would move out of the way if the trucks came down the street.

and needed police protection. They are not going to drive into that mess; their trucks would probably be destroyed

Police precincts are just small satellite buildings where a smaller number of cops report to work. They usually have minimum staffing and equipment inside. The County jail, a much more fortified building is where people would be jailed. This building that is on fire was largely abandoned by the cops hours ago.

whether it has holding cells. I assume when they evacuated the building they took computers and records with them, to the extent possible.

I don't think the whole rather large building is on fire; there's probably a sprinkler system and I'm sure people will be evacuated.

These were taken in the 3rd precinct's parking lot after police abandoned the building. Trying to get video up but my data is terrible in this area.

The 3rd precinct building is now on fire. Rioters are celebrating and posing for pictures in front of the flames.

to cover the doors and windows in the front. The building itself is concrete or brick and quite large and almost certainly has a sprinkler system.

gas went off so they backed off. They did not want to go in. Maybe that is why it was only the front we initially saw???

Rioters successfully opened one of the doors to the third precinct's building, but police had one surprise for them: they set off a ton of tear gas inside. The rioters quickly exited the building.
