Here is a link to the story online about what you see in that tweet. The suspect in a double murder, a white man, was detained and given water...

(15,325 posts)Did they get evidence of the counterfit bill(s)?
Was there a store tape that proved he gave the alledged counterfit $20 to the clerk?
Where's the evidence?
Do they have proof a crime was even committed?
Where's the $20?

(5,640 posts)Last night I heard from someone being interviewed that the call was not even about the counterfeit bill, it was about a "slumped driver", meaning that he may have been sleeping in his car at the time.
I also heard it was for a forged check. So there is plenty of speculation, but no hard facts.
We may never know the real reason the police were called...

(14,966 posts)But I don't remember which of the two it was, and there's a world of difference between a recording and a paraphrased recollection.
Either way, the 911 call will be made public some day. They always are. But what the 911 dispatcher said to the cops, or what the cops said to each other will probably always be in dispute, hidden, or falsified.

(11,738 posts)It is fine that the guy arrested for Double Murder is given water. People deserve humane treatment. Dylan Roof being taken to Burger King is not the problem. The problem is that Black and Brown people are brutalized and killed, often during what should be routine encounters with police.
There is a lot of denial about the bias and racial bigotry that is systemic in law enforcement and the legal system in general. When you feel that the system has already decided your fate, then you only recourse starts to become violent outrage.

(5,640 posts)It is endemic to the system.
There can be no progress until the system is rebuilt from the ground up, imo.

(14,966 posts)There really is no limit to the double standard of how cops treat white vs non-white people.

(26,076 posts)There is nothing wrong with Dylan Roof being bought fast food, since the jail didn't have food for him. These two murderers deserved their water and their burger and fries. They were thirsty and they were hungry. This is humane and proper treatment.
You and others need to stop stating this.
ALL prisoners should be treated like this.
ALL.
White prisoners shouldn't be treated humanely because POC folks aren't.
POC folks should ALSO be treated like this.
We need to frame this better, because the US treats prisoners horribly.

(5,640 posts)I merely pointed out the disparity that exists and why the anger is so great.
I think you are reading something into my OP that is not there. I never suggested anything you are accusing me of suggesting.
I agree that prisoners are treated horribly, never said anything about that. You are simply stating the obvious.
All prisoners need to be treated humanely, unfortunately, if you are a person of color you are sometimes subjected to ill treatment, like a knee to the throat...

If I could do a side by side pic of it, the visual comparison would no go unnoticed.
