It appears that Gov. DeSantis has ordered an under-count of deaths in Florida
"Multiple tweets have pointed out that Florida is one of several states where a particular category of deaths that have happened in 2020 represents a sharp increase over past years. That category is deaths due to flu or pneumonia. As compiled by the CDC, in the first six months of 2020, Florida has logged 5,248 deaths due to pneumonia. Of those deaths, 960 were identified as being connected to COVID-19. That leaves 4,288from pneumonia deaths which were reported, but not logged against the COVID-19 deaths. (4,465 posts)Take the average # of pneumonia deaths by month. Subtract that number from the current pneumonia deaths. What's left over is almost certainly COVID deaths.

(22,114 posts)these misleading figures can lend themselves incorrectly to some states opening too soon.
Those deaths (perhaps caused by these misleading figures put out) will come back and bite those that aided and abetted the underreporting of CV-related deaths.

Why some people who likely died from COVID-19 arent included in the final numbers

(22,114 posts)medical advances we've made over the last several decades, that counting death and its associated cause(s) would be so difficult to ascribe/assign to, among all of the various categories available. I am still amazed that when I read sometimes of someone's death, and the cause is 'undetermined'.
