Amarillo once again makes the news (Not Covid related]

You cannot make this shit up. If anyone from Amarillo or around the Texas Panhandle. You'll know who Jesse Quackenbush is. A now revoked license bootleg version of Saul Goodman. Famous locally for being anti LGBT and having a daughter who shot a homeless man later year.

I apologize for the picture but this is legit. The guy who owns this is such a racist bigoted piece of shit who lost his law license a long time ago. Now he's trying to sell shitty food to the locals.

The owner of the restaurant is Jesse Quackenbush, an Amarillo attorney.

Quackenbush says it’s simple, the restaurant is selling beans, coffee and Mexican food, which is why it's named “Big Beaners.”

“And there’s no intention of racism behind that sign, the sign was merely was trying to connect the brand with the product,” Quackenbush said.

-snip-

“If anyone took the time to read the menu and look at the logo and understand it’s a kidney bean not an Abel Bosquez or some Mexican that’s bored at some committee,” said Quackenbush. “Theres no racist intention, I’m not a racist, we don’t cater to racists, we don’t have anything to do with racists, so Abel Bosquez is simply wrong.”

and ran across the article. No Yelp reviews since the business hasn't opened. Quackenbush could use some sensitivity training though and it is ridiculous to believe that he wasn't aware of the racist connotations of the name. I hope that the business fails.

Owner of Big Beaners restaurant responds to concerns raised by Amarillo NAACP, LULAC

Jesse Quackenbush is responding after officials with the Amarillo branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), as well as the Texas League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), expressed their concerns regarding the naming of his new restaurant.

Officials from both organizations said the name of his restaurant, Big Beaners, was racist and offensive.

Quackenbush said there have been two recent incidents of vandalism to the restaurant. There were bricks with messages thrown through the windows. Quackenbush would not comment on what the bricks said due to the police investigating the incidents.

In a statement given to the Amarillo Globe-News in response to the NAACP and LULAC statements, Quackenbush states he would agree to change the name of Big Beaners “without admitting to any of (the organizations’) preposterous allegations of racism” if they follow certain terms.

He also wants $27,000 for rebranding the restaurant.
