To everyone who does, be safe.

(6,477 posts)I'm actually getting scared of this person's behavior.
This is the second unrelated thread in a week that this poster has asked for a reply to a completely different thread. This is stalking behavior on any forum. I am not interested in interacting with this poster, and I wish the poster would stop stalking me around the forum.
Here is the original thread from May 23: https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=2499420

I consider this stalking and I'm concerned. I'm publicly asking the poster to stop stalking me around the forum about it.

(37,748 posts)You trivialize the real thing and come across as little more than self-serving and sanctimonious.

(15,526 posts)I recently watched a documentary called "Meet the Romans with Mary Beard", which covered the archaeological evidence of regular Romans instead of the typical focus on military and political leaders.
The city had baths and plumbing among other "amenities" not available outside of it. It also had no police for the regular citizens, just the elite at the top.
It was a big mistake to walk in an alley at night, not too dissimilar to modern cities. The negatives seemed to outweigh the positives for me.

(13,850 posts)Close to Barclays and Grand Army Plaze (site of two protests over the weekend). I feel safe at home. I haven't joined the protests bc I have a young kid at home and we are social distancing. But I support the protestors, what their mission is, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

(13,850 posts)I think the majority of people protesting will also be safe. I hope that it's peaceful tonight more than anything. And thank you for your well wishes.
It's a wonderful place here, to be honest. And we are living through what will be studied in history books. I am happy to be here and support those marching in the small ways that I can do.

(58,785 posts)what's happening just like people in rural areas.
I was appraising homes all through the week of the 1992 L.A. riots (after the Rodney King verdict), the usual 2 or 3 properties a day spread all over L.A, -- as were the riots. I'd call the local precinct before heading out to see if I needed to avoid any boulevards or neighborhoods on my way in, but never had to reschedule. Riots tend to take place in town centers and on commercial boulevards, with the residential neighborhoods around them more often than not completely untouched.
Btw, those who don't live in the affected cities also don't get to join the many wonderful people who come together to clean up and plan and rebuild.

(49,927 posts)It isn't really here. Not really. It's super quiet and I expect it to stay that way. The only thing different so far is that the restaurants that re-opened this past week in my city have been told to close at 2pm. This is according to my SIL's neighborhood app, so take it with a grain of salt. I haven't been able to google that shit up for myself. (I suppose I could call a couple local restaurants, duh.)
But it's super quiet here and I expect it to stay that way. Not as bad as in '92, when I was 12.4 miles away from downtown. That shit was iffy. I had my bug out bag and my earthquake kit right by the front door that time. Not there yet.
