Police Erupt in Violence Nationwide

The ongoing protests following the killing of George Floyd were caught up in violence again on Saturday, as police all over the country teargassed protestors, drove vehicles through crowds, opened fire with non-lethal rounds on journalists or people on their own property, and in at least one instance, pushed over an elderly man who was walking away with a cane. Here are some of the ways law enforcement officers escalated the unrest.

go about dismantling the militarised police forces that that have almost hopelessly been intertwined with war/security/surveillance state for the past 50 plus years. The thousands of police departments across the nation have to be disentangled from the military industrial complex and the war/security/surveillance state (which also needs to vastly downsized and reformed at a truly huge level.)

The special interests involved with this entire superstructure have trillions of dollars at risk if you start to deconstruct the entire matrix, and they will fight back at EVERY level. They will have allies even inside our party ('law and order' and pro defence expansion Democrats who far too often join in and vote with the Rethugs on utterly crucial, huge votes, like the insane large budgets for all components of the matrix, and actions like voting for FISA and Patriot Act (with no real reforms) renewal and then other expansions that give further systemic power to the entire apparatus.) It will be extraordinarily hard because so many districts (at all levels) have been artificially gerrymandered by the Rethugs into swing pink, purple and slightly reddish seats, and those Democrats who run for those 'hot', in-play seats will be extremely loathe to vote for the deconstruction, as they will be labelled as 'weak on crime' and false-framed as 'caving into radical left', and even labelled unpatriotic and supporters of anarchy. It is a huge clusterfuck, and is backstopped with billions in lobbying money over the decades.

As for racial justice, it is the same structural approach that needs to be take. The entire zeitgeist and white supremacist culture of ALL police forces needs to rooted out and crush at taproot level. I saw a post that said (I am paraphrasing) 'If you take 1000 cops and you have 900 relatively 'good' ones, but they do nothing or very, very little when the other 100 bad ones do horrific shit, then in reality you have 1000 bad cops. I also think far more than 10% of the police are bad actors. Police unions needs to be dismantled and reconfigured (if they can be) so they no longer are agents of protection for the white nationalist culture, and indeed, the very culture of overall out of control brutality in general. Much more rigorous screening processes need to be instituted so we can avoid hiring the bad actors (especial if they have an ex-military background) in the first place. also, as of now, it is ludicrously easy for a bad cop to get sacked, and then just slide over to another city and get re-hired. A national database with true teeth needs to be set up so that these rogue monsters can NEVER work in law enforcement/police activity again, even at private level.

The entire project will take decades, and will be like trying to turn around a supertanker in a bathtub. It will be fought against every inch of the way, by thousands of actors and at thousands of levels, and in thousands of ways and angles, both public and in private.

I have little hope for it to happen, other than some mitigation actions and attempts when we Democrats have the whip-hand over the Rethugs at multiple major levels. Hopefully Biden and all the rest of our Democrats at all levels can at least stop the bleeding, and somehow roll back and reform parts of the monster.
