(13,180 posts)Did the cop "mace the child?" If there's no proof, it should not be posted.
Also, any parent allowing their child to participate in a protest where there might be violence should be fired as a parent.
Rebl2
(13,502 posts)should not be taken to protests where there is a good probability that mace/pepper spray and rubber bullets might be used. Also NO cop should be taping over their badge number and should be cause for being fired.

(36,850 posts)In Detroit, many people brought their children to the protest, but it was very peaceful (until the sun went down). But approaching a police line like this with your child... nope.

(35,335 posts)one of a COP. That could easily be faked. I see no evince the COP actually did it. If a video can be provided I will agree
but this is could just be faked to stir up more trouble. Too much misinformation being shared on social media.
SEATTLE - People poured milk over the face of a distressed child Saturday afternoon as police deployed pepper spray against protesters.
Photographer Evan Hreha told Storyful that people who had seen the incident claimed that a Seattle police officer had sprayed the child with mace. The police department has been contacted for comment.
This video, filmed by Hreha, shows the child screaming as people in the vicinity attempted to help her by pouring milk over her face.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan announced a 5 p.m. curfew for the entire city Saturday and Washingon Gov. Jay Inslee activated the National Guard after rioters torched police vehicles and spilled onto Interstate 5, forcing the freeways temporary closure through the central part of the Northwests largest city.

(27,811 posts)Sorry, but that is wholly irresponsible. By the time things got going in Seattle, it was pretty clear from footage all over the resr of the country that things could get violent.

(28,817 posts)Are they really police? I think that no ID by police means I dont have to obey them.
Wow. Now we need actual video for proof?
Thats bullshit. Especially if bodycam is taped or off.
How many black men will continue to die if we need video of an incident?

(51,308 posts)No way.
That guy will be identified. Whether he'll be punished is another case altogether.

(3,014 posts)Whether you worry about them being super spreaders or about them catching it, they should not be in massive throngs of people like that.

(34,069 posts)While I agree that taking a child to an event where violence is expected is inappropriate, taking a child to what is planned as a peaceful protest is not. It is an important step in teaching your child to stand up for their beliefs by exercising their first amendment rights.
There were many daytime protests that were carried out peacefully yesterday - including some that turned violent only after police responded poorly, night was approacing, or outside agitators intervened.

(3,014 posts)takes their child to protests that have been turning violent???
Children are not accessories!

(12,653 posts)It was still daylight. The family could have been there for the peaceful march - which was downtown where there is limited parking, from what I remember - and ran afoul of a line of pissed off police who decided to teach some "uppity, ungrateful Cits" a lesson for the disrespect shown to their choice of profession.
Lots of people take their kids to demonstrate a civic duty under the 1st. Amendment, even some DU'ers (Occupy Wall Street, Women's March, Iraq War protest, etc..)
The major cause of this girl's distress is probably not due to her parents, but with increased militarization of the role of Public Safety officer. There's a decreased attitude of " we are part of a public service" and an increased attitude of "we are warriors enforcing a comfortable status quo for be big folks in charge".
Cops are being trained to act as mercenaries for the local big wigs that hire them; taught that everyone else are animals out to get them. That they are nothing more than a fungible component of a security team.

(3,014 posts)Half the people here as well as in real life flip their shit about people being out in groups. Suddenly its perfectly fine?
I think the cop needs to be found and fired. I also think the parents need a damn parenting class.
And on edit: as parents we miss out on a lot of things because we are parents. We miss out on get-togethers, concerts, movie premieres, sometimes even important things like weddings and funerals. Parents often miss out on a lot of things because we dont have babysitters.
Children should never be at a protest. Even in the best of times its a dangerous situation and a stupid choice by parents with poor judgment.

(5,477 posts)reminding officers to 'turn off the video'. Sounded almost like they didn't want any bodycam evidence that might possibly be subpoenaed later on.
