Romney wants to wage a war on porn

http://www.forbes.com/sites/susannahbreslin/2012/09/13/mitt-romney-porn/

The Obscenity Police Are Coming

“They want to put me in jail, basically.”

That’s how porn director John Stagliano responds when I ask him what he thinks of the 2012 GOP platform,in particular one newly added sentence:

“Current laws on all forms of pornography and obscenity need to be vigorously enforced.”

Two years ago, Stagliano was sitting in a Washington,D.C., courtroom, charged with seven counts of distributing obscenity.

Gee, that's what we need in this country: another war on sin, which would result in people getting years of prison for doing nothing more than making pictures of people fucking.

The prison-industrial complex needs more slaves...

Marriott, Mitt Romney, and porn

Feb 5th 2011, 18:37 by N.B. | WASHINGTON, DC

..

THE HOTEL chain Marriott recently announced that it would cease selling "adult content"—ie, pornography—in its newer hotels. Anyone who knows a bit about the hotel business might find this move a bit confusing. After all, porn is still a moneymaker for chains like Marriott, which by some estimates was earning $175 per room, per year in smut peddling alone.

But there does seem to be a method to Marriott's madness. Politico's Ben Smith explains that Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts and a presumptive candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, recently left the Marriott board. The chain's owners are "longtime Romney supporters", Mr Smith notes. And social conservatives, apparently, hit Mr Romney hard on the porn "issue" during the ex-governor's 2008 campaign for the GOP nomination. (One critic called Mr Romney a "major pornographer.&quot So in some sense, Mr Smith argues, Marriott appears to be doing Mr Romney a "costly favor." Then again:

Another person familiar with the workings of the industry, though, cast doubt on the connection: The in-room movie business has been hit hard by wifi, Netflix, iPads, and laptops, and the structure of contracts with providers could well have made it a solid economic decision.”

Adult content is material that is not sold to minors.

Pornography is illegal material and can not be sold.

Labeling pictures and movies of concenting adults with no cloths on
as pornography is rediculous.

Don't adult materials make the largest profits on the internet?

Good luck trying to legislate morality.

The difference between "adult content" and "illegal pornography" is specious at best.

As far as I'm concerned, pornography, including the really nasty hardcore stuff should be legal and protected under the First Amendment. The only exception being stuff like child porn, because a child is being abused in making it.

But if consenting adults are doing BDSM, German scheissporn, or whatever, it should be legal.

What is it about moralizing crotch-sniffers demanding legal authority and imprisoning people for making movies they don't like?

You wrote - "including the really nasty hardcore stuff"

Not a judgment but - when you say "nasty", I think distasteful

Some people think the more "nasty" the greater the turn-on

I like the phrase - Sex is only dirty if you do it right.

I guess that's why I want "pornography" to be limited to the
really bad stuff - as you said - child porn.

I guess we agree that if concenting adults want to film and show sexual acts it should be left to the discretion of the viewer and not legislated by the government.

never mind - unless you would like to add something.

One person's "nasty" is another person's "OMG THAT'S HOT!"

Since the standards vary WIDELY from one person to another, trying to shoehorn a single standard and enforce it with the guns of government can only lead to insanity.

That's why I think we should leave it at the "if they're consenting adults, leave them alone!" standard.

Thing is, one has to LOOK AT IT first to determine if it is pornography or not. You can't take anyone's word for it. So, bring it on and stack it up over there...let's see if it is Really Porn. We'll get back to you. I'd LOL, but it's very sad.

It's the only way this butthead will get elected, and the only way people will like him is if he is "Commander-in-Chief" of the next war.

He knows no one likes him, but still, he presses on, robot that he is.

I might like him more if I found out he WAS a robot.

Mostly he's just an asshole with grey sideburns.

than the fundies. Romney will spend exactly ZERO seconds talking about or working on legislation for pornography, abortion, "protecting marriage" or any of the other issues on the social agenda of the right wing. As soon as Romney loses interest in their votes, he'll lose interest in their issues. This is what happens you have NO core values.
