Pat Buchanan out indefinitely at MSNBC

Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan has been suspended indefinitely from MSNBC, according to a statement from that network’s President Phil Griffin. An Associated Press article on CBSNews.com blames reaction to Buchanan’s latest book Suicide of a Superpower for his ouster from the cable network, as well as a campaign by the advocacy group, Color of Change.

The former Nixon aide has long courted controversy. In April of this year he said that President Obama’s path to the White House was the result of “Affirmative Action all the way.” In 2009, he asserted that the U.S. “has been a country built, basically, by white folks.”

MSNBC’s Griffin apparently believes, however, that Buchanan’s newest work has crossed a line. Suicide of a Superpower came out in October and features chapters with titles like “The End of White America” and “The Death of Christian America.

The AP quotes Griffin as saying, “Because of the content of the book, I didn’t think it should be part of the national dialogue, much less part of the dialogue on MSNBC.”

I hope he won't appear as a guest on Rachel's show anymore either. "Uncle Pat" has always turned my stomach, and when Rachel had him on, I switched channels.

I much prefer Mike Steele as the designated punching bag for Republican talking points. Buchanan is a racist and a homophobe.

I am delighted, and may Pat find himself without a camera to speak to, for the rest of his hate filled life. Same goes for his sister.
This is major stuff for me. We stopped watching them when the whole 'he's our Uncle Pat' routine was launched. Made me sick, literally. I tuned in once for Larry O, once for Al Sharpton, and that felt like I was crossing the picket line! Now I can watch Al if I want to, and the rest of them.
Thanks for your efforts with Color of Change, and on this particular issue.

and finally got Pat's employers to take a look at what they were paying for. It is a shame of great magnitude that it took so many years. His recent work is awful, not that different from his decades of hate mongering, and I know that without the focused work of Color of Change he'd have continued to work there.
I might tune them in again now. No MSNBC for us since we heard Rachel and others call him 'Uncle Pat'. That was it. Too much for me. When they tried to make him charming and quirky, when they were trying to mainstream Pat, we simply could not endure it.

Anyone who couldn't figure out the beef of slaves because, in his words, they "got a nice free boat trip to the US" is a hopelessly clueless bigot in addition to being a long time rightie tool overall.
