Maybe the Govs should call Trump's bluff?
"President Donald Trump threatened to mobilize the military to restore peace across the U.S. late Monday."
Really? Anyone else see logistical problems if every Gov. accepts the help? Every state is bending under the costs of increased security and the Moscow Mitch controlled fed paymasters are denying them more help. Surely the states might welcome not having the burden of huge increases in cop overtime. And to be honest, from what I've seen, cops aren't that proficient at crowd control. Waive the "posse comitatus" issues once so important to the RWNJ and let Trump deal with it, says I. Just maybe the military might grow a pair and do the right thing.

9. Backfire?
Sure it could but we're not doing so great now. Time Trump was exposed for the emptiness of his rhetoric. No way the military could or would deploy to 50 states for police duty.
And maybe the sight of troops on the streets might wake up some people to what's going on under the GOP. Just spitballing here. |

3. The Posse Comitatus Act is now a blockade to fascism.
I want the law respected and strengthened.
Arresting fascism an unintended consequence for the act, but it is needed right now. Definitely need to add to the act a 2/3 majority of both houses for override of the law. |

13. Um, that quaint Posse Comitatus Act thingy was nurtured in 2006
It's revision passed overwhelming by both House and Senate, and signed into law by GW Bush in 2006.
Section 1076 is titled "Use of the Armed Forces in major public emergencies". It provided that: The President may employ the armed forces ... to ... restore public order and enforce the laws of the United States when, as a result of a natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition ... the President determines that ... domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of maintaining public order ... or [to] suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy if such ... a condition ... so hinders the execution of the laws ... that any part or class of its people is deprived of a right, privilege, immunity, or protection named in the Constitution and secured by law ... or opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act#2006%E2%80%9307_suspension |

15. These changes were repealed from the Insurrection Act in 2008.
If they are still in Posse Comitatus they need to be removed.

16. They were - the john Warner Act was repealed.
In 2008, these (2006/07) changes in the Insurrection Act of 1807 were repealed in their entirety, reverting to the previous wording of the Insurrection Act.[12] It was originally written to limit presidential power as much as possible in the event of insurrection, rebellion, or lawlessness.

and there are enough loopholes built into it for the orange anus to drive a Deuce and a Half through.

4. I think they already have called his bluff. Yesterday on DU I read that not one governor, of the...
50 has asked for help/aid from rump's feds. Not one. My understanding is that the governors must ask for such help before rump can deploy fed. troops in their states. Wash. DC is a different story, I think.

THEY asked HIM for help. It wasn't HIS idea . . . . . .

11. He's already blaming
the Gov's for virtually every problem from CV-19 to "weak" responses to "riots". We need him to display HIS incompetence once again.
Look, he won't send troops, he's bluffing. It would be a catalyst for chaos from the right and left. |

14. It's been tried/threatened in the past
In the “50s and ‘60s when Presidents sent troops into a state and the specter of state against federal troops arose the President federalizes the Guard calling it to active duty. This removes the state’s National Guard from the control of the states. They are then ordered back to barracks.
