I'm guessing her negatives aren't errrr toooo heavy.SPRINGFIELD With 50 days left until Massachusetts voters decide who will represent them in the U.S. Senate for the next six years, Harvard law professor Elizabeth Warren has pulled ahead of Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, according to a new poll.
The survey of Bay State voters conducted Sept. 6-13 by the Western New England Polling Institute through a partnership with The Republican and MassLive.com, shows Warren leading over Brown, 50 to 44 percent, among likely voters.
The gap among registered voters is even larger, according to the survey, which concluded Warren leads 53 to 41 percent. The poll of 545 registered voters has a 4.2 percent margin of error, while the sample of 444 likely voters has a 4.6 percent margin of error.
Tim Vercellotti, professor of political science and director of the Polling Institute at Western New England University, said Warren's lead comes in part from the fact that she's shored up support among Democrats to 89 percent, while losing only six percent of her party's support to Brown.

(238 posts)If you look at his voting record, it is very mixed. I can see how he may be attractive to some moderate democrats (and those that do not vote a straight ticket) and independents. Plus, he comes across as a really 'likable' guy. HOWEVER, looking closely at his voting record and you can see he went along with his party on nearly every vote that held back a lot of what Obama was trying to get passed to HELP our economy. All those instances where Republicans put up stumbling blocks, not because they thought the measure was bad, but just to keep Obama from getting something passed, he fell right in line.
THIS is what Elizabeth's campaign needs to focus on now. He put politics ahead of what was good for the nation. Keep hammering this home. Democrats need people in the house and senate who will support our President's agenda so we can get things moving in the right direction. Brown won't.

So as long as the vote was meaningless he was willing to placate Democrats? We're a little bit smarter than that. Hell I'm sure I could find things George W Bush supported that Democrats support that don't matter. That doesn't make him friendly to Democrats. It makes him a Republican politician trying to fool people.

(14,887 posts)for those living in solid blue states, to get those down ticket Democrats elected. Obama has California's 55 electoral votes. We have the luxury of concentrating our time and money on congressional, state and, most importantly, local democrats running for office.

(10,942 posts)I am happy to see Warren focusing on issues that are important to Massachusetts citizens. Brown wants votes, but when he is in Washington, he votes with the likes of Mitch McConnell and Jeff Sessions. Under no circumstances do southern conservatives have the interests of Massachusetts at heart, neither does Brown when all is said and done.

MA has never elected a female senator. EVER. We've elected one of the rare black senators, but never a female one. We've also never managed an "own right" female governor. You'd think the People's Commonwealth of MA would have done better by now, but no...
Ten points are better than six, IMO--I won't rest on any laurels. This will be a fight to the finish.

(81,993 posts)Sorta restores my faith. There is NO WAY that ANY Democrat should be voting for scott brown - especially when they have an alternative like Elizabeth Warren!!! She understands AND embodies the very core of what it means to be a Democrat. And I would think that Massachusetts would want a confirmed and dedicated "D" in that job as opposed to a sometimes-kinda-sorta-maybe when it's merely politically expedient.
SO glad to see this! I'm actually relieved. He had better numbers for so long I was starting to get disillusioned about Massachusetts!

(22,924 posts)There are many people out there who enjoy ticket splitting. They think it proves they are open minded. Some want to find some Republican they can praise for being sane compared to most of the Republican Party and they want to reward Brown for not falling totally in line.
But the Bay State is very Democratic on national issues. Voters need reminding that the fate of the U.S. Senate may rest on who they elect as their Senator.

(262 posts)I first saw E. Warren in 2009 when she was on Bill Maher's show or perhaps it was The Daily Show, or Colbert...anyway...she came on to explain T.A.R.P. for those of us who wanted to know about the bailout. In fewer words than a short paragraph, she made sense to those of us (like myself) who are mathematically and/or financially challenged. She was someone that I'd watch grow into what I hoped to be Tim Geithner's replacement. *sigh* My niece was starting law school @ Georgetown. While she was visiting my Mom in San Diego we had lunch &I asked her if she'd ever heard of Elizabeth Warren & she hadn't. Flash forward...she now is a "daughter of Georgetown", & knows "who she is & doesn't remember her until she saw things re; her run for senate. (she never picked her head up from studying, pro bono, internships, et al) I don't remind her that it was me who talked about her but I am glad she knows her now. That leads me back to that big speech in front of the DNC..."THERE IS NO RED AMERICA, THERE IS NO BLUE AMERICA, WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!" "ONLY IN AMERICA IS MYSTORY EVEN POSSIBLE". (paraphrasing, but you get my drift) We know what we thought...or at least it IS.what I thought...and he was a state senator!
Now here we are...8 yrs later...President Barack Hussein Obama has been POTUS for four years. And we will vote...& when we do ..the 99% will be the difference...and spreading ddown-ticket not only nationally, but local & statewide as well. The power of our voices will be our votes! This is our chance to make the other side spend more than a billion dollars on the presidential race alone & God only knows how many more of their precious dollars will be spent...but one thing I do know is...OUR IDEAS ARE BETTER & without our VOTES, the lying, manipulating, job creating ladder pulling, door closing, I've got mine folks, the my God is better or more right than your God folks, the folks that try to legislate a woman's health, or those who use love as a "wedge issue" fuck... I got carried away this morning...(long story for later when I get offa my soapbox...( note to self...re: dinner last night & disagreement with a long time best pal of our family who is diehard rethug but sweet otherwise)...Anyway...we must elect all progressive or D candidates this November & make this year a reverse WAVE election! We need solutions & those candidates who are totally bought & payed for step aside for those who want to govern.
We need to be the 99%!
OCCUPY THE BALLOT BOX, THE EARLY VOTE, THE MAJORITY, & THEN WE CAN GET OUR COUNTRY BACK IN HANDS THAT MAKE IT...TOGETHER!!!
Thank you Elizabeth Warren, for helping me with the numbersnumbers. I know deep down, you will win Teddy's seat back & do what I know you will...to help our country get back on track.

Only 444 likely voters polled (low amount) and the margin of error is a bit high (4.6 +/- percent margin of error). They need to sample a larger group (i.e.-1000-3000) and bring the margin of error to +/- 3% for me to feel more comfortable with this sample poll.

Ray Flynn is a anti-woman, corrupt right-wing asshole who has no connection to younger democrats.
