We KNOW for a scientific fact that, although we do not yet have a vaccine or even an effective treatment, we can substantially reduce the rate of Covid 19 infection and save tens of thousands of lives---at least---by simply wearing masks when we must interact with others, thoroughly washing our hands as often as possible and STAYING THE FUCK HOME if you possibly can!
DON'T go to a movie or a saloon and who gives a shit what your hair looks like!
Currently, we do not have a functioning federal government. If you are fortunate enough to live in a state whose governor does not worship at the altar of Trump, he or she may be doing his or her best to slow the spread of the disease but, in the final analysis you are on your own. If you want to maximize your chances to survive, DO WHAT YOU DAMN WELL KNOW YOU SHOULD. If that is just too much for you to endure, roll the dice and part hearty. Get a new "do", exercise your right to eat in a crowded restaurant, hell---book a cruise!
But, before you do, answer the Eastwood interrogatory: "Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya?"

(115,809 posts)I'm not doing anything different from what I was doing in March. I'm fortunate that because I'm retired I'm able to stay home, and that's exactly what I'm going to do. I've resigned myself to the likelihood that it's going to be that way indefinitely - no restaurants, no concerts, definitely no cruises. My hair looks like crap - like I walked into a gigantic spider web - but nobody sees me anyhow. There are worse things than sitting home with cats and Netflix.

(2,475 posts)I watched one on how to give myself a fade cut and the first time it was wonky and I ended up just shaving my head, but the second time I slowed down and it looked just fine. Never paying for a barber again!

(115,809 posts)I am of the female persuasion and I'm not going to shave my head. I'm just going to let my pale, fine hair get longer and longer and more spiderwebby. I can live with it.

(15,137 posts)And I would add, if you go to the movies, eat at the restaurant, get your hair done, or frequent crowded bars - you must pin a note to your lapel that says "I did this to myself. I do not deserve to be taken to the hospital or given any medical care at all. Save those masks and ventilators for someone who needs it."

(31,525 posts)We will have to develop routines and habits that will reduce our personal risk. We can't rely on others to take the same precautions.
I am amazed and disheartened by the number of people who still act like this is no big deal. We're already experiencing a second wave. New cases in Arkansas on the rise after being in decline and very few people even wear a mask.

(1,616 posts)personal responsibility. each person is responsible for their own life. The news daily does it's job and reports Covid-19 is as dangerous as ever. It's up to each person how to use that information.

(17,016 posts)WE continue to treat this Covid-19 as though it started yesterday! We take every precaution we can!! Waiting for the scientists, (not tRUMPS) come up with the right vaccine!

(20,877 posts)A good example of one that is still around but no vaccine has yet to be found after 20 years of research is AIDS, another fatal disease that came from animals and spread to humans.
We do not know what we are up against and no, it is not a "flu"!
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,809 posts)Neither of these diseases are related to COVID-19. So far there haven't been any successful vaccines for any coronavirus diseases in humans (the common cold can be caused by several different coronaviruses).

(86,748 posts)remind people that we still have a pandemic going on and yes, I will be wearing a mask and avoid gatherings.
I plan to hit the farmer's market tomorrow but they have a special time for at risk people so I think I'll do that but I go to the grocery store and do errands, that's it. And I practice safe distancing and wear a mask. I'm reducing my grocery shopping soon as I planted a garden for food and some items are almost ready to start eating.
I just hope I can avoid getting it at all, though that's not likely, but I hope to avoid being caught up in a spike event. We suddenly have several new cases in the state after slowly opening in the first two phases. It's going to be a strange summer but this is our new world.

(20,877 posts)I have to take my husband for eye surgery tomorrow.
I'm telling him how it's gonna be right now (re: mask, hand sanitation, etc.).
Ongoing nightmare scenario we are in and I'm trying my best to not have to go out!

(32,713 posts)It's the yahoos in the streets, coffee shops and Walmarts that we need to worry about.
Medical people already know about the dangers of exposure to Covid-19.
Good luck tomorrow!

(1,433 posts)I have a mole check at the dermatologist. Today was the day. All staff members were very cautious, I was masked and gloved. Temp was taken. Your husband will be in good, cautious hands.

(20,877 posts)Thank you!
After I get him home he is blind for a couple of days as he can see out of only one eye.
He postponed the appt. (the doctor was out sick last month) so he cannot let it go any longer.
I appreciate the details! Thanks again!!!

(6,905 posts)DO feel lucky. Probably just because they haven't thought about it. It might not be a bad idea to post that question on the inside of every door through which one normally leaves the house ... just a reminder.

(1,817 posts)We are on phase 2 of opening.
Had my haircut the other day.
Had to stay in my car till called. Hand sanitizer at the door.
Had to wear a mask and fill out a page questionnaire about my health.
I had a mask on and the woman who cut my hair had a mask and shield.
The chairs were far apart and only 2 other patrons were in. The chair was sanitized before I sat down.
I felt safe.
But I am careful. Very careful when I go out.

(5,810 posts)Ive only been out of the house a handful of times since March. I went to the grocery store a time or two in March, to Quest for lab work and riding to the bank with my husband to quell cabin fever.
(Only went to drive up.) When we figured out that I have more risk factors than my husband, he is the designated grocery and errand runner. When we can get a pick up time at the grocery we buy groceries that way. I order, husband picks them up.
Am I tired of it? Am I sad we had to postpone a visit in May from a long time friend? Am I missing my grandchildren and my son and daughter-in-law? Yes, yes and YES! But we intend to lay low, hunker down and try our best to avoid unnecessary contact with anyone since ANYONE could pass the virus to us. I changed my medical check up to a telemedicine visit and it was fine. Staying home so much is an inconvenience but risking death or long term consequences of Covid 19 is much worse. We will do this as long as necessary. Even if this continues until Nov. were ready to vote absentee since we have a standing order to get ballots in the mail. Weve vote this way since 2004 and would have it no other way!
