“Joe Biden’s search for a running mate is entering a second round of vetting for a dwindling list of potential vice presidential nominees, with several black women in strong contention,” the AP reports.

“Democrats with knowledge of the process said Biden’s search committee has narrowed the choices to as few as six serious contenders after initial interviews. Those still in contention include Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kamala Harris of California, as well as Susan Rice, who served as President Barack Obama’s national security adviser.”

“Advisers have also looked closely at Florida Rep. Val Demings and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, both of whom are black, and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Latina.”

1. Biden's VP list narrows: Warren, Harris, Susan Rice, others
Fri Jun 12, 2020, 04:38 PM
Jun 2020
WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden’s search for a running mate is entering a second round of vetting for a dwindling list of potential vice presidential nominees, with several black women in strong contention.

Democrats with knowledge of the process said Biden’s search committee has narrowed the choices to as few as six serious contenders after initial interviews. Those still in contention include Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kamala Harris of California, as well as Susan Rice, who served as President Barack Obama’s national security adviser.

The process remains somewhat fluid, according to those with knowledge, and additional candidates may still be asked to submit to the extensive document review process now underway for top contenders. Those familiar with Biden’s search spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the process.

Biden, who has already said he will pick a woman as his running mate, is facing increased calls from Democrats to put a woman of color on the ticket — both because of the outsize role that black voters played in Biden’s road to the nomination and because of the reckoning over racism and inequality roiling the nation following the death of George Floyd. The black Minneapolis man died after a white police officer pressed his knee on his neck for several minutes, an episode that was captured on video.

Maybe that's not going to be a very feasible look right now (although I think that animus towards her is a bit extreme). Rice would be good too, although she will be stupidly hounded non-stop about Benghazi. I don't really care and I would hope that it wouldn't matter to a lot of people when compared to Trump/Pence but I could see some left-leaning Democrats making some noise (they already aren't crazy about having to vote for Biden).

That said, my top choice (if she can be persuaded) would be Michelle Obama.

Elizabeth Warren always leaps to mind. She has far more in common with Biden ideologically than people realize but is also much more of an iconoclast, making a wonderful complement. And she consistently polls as the one with the biggest coattails.

Also on the subject, it means absolutely nothing, and I'm always wrong on these things, but this subject always brings to mind when Warren confirmed she was being considered for VP on Maddow's show (the first prospect!) and Maddow ended by asking her if she'd accept. Warren kind of startled me when she softened her voice and said she would. Not by that, but by what I took ( yeah, everyone else with less than a grain of salt) as a quiet, humble, almost dewey happiness with the idea. All together, that made me wonder if she knew that statement was a historic moment...

So much for that. I usually try to keep my imagination from running wild, and I don't know where it'd take me if I watched it again now. I don't care to get emotionally involved since it's not my choice.

I supported Warren in the primary, but alas she didn't prevail. I'm pulling for Kamala to get the nod for VP for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that's she's extremely good. It's way past time for a strong, intelligent black woman to be President and serving as Biden's VP would be a great stepping stone to that.

Even with all that. I think she is the weakest candidate for VP. We all have our own honest opinions, and I'm not taking anything away from the brilliant Senator she is. In the end, the only opinion that's going to count is Joe Biden's opinion, and we'll all enthusiastically support whoever he chooses.

not particularly the case. I am seeing posts to this below so I will read them. If it is a loss of that seat and what you say is true, she is automatically out. Otherwise, I like her best for the job, ... and then the other two and I was all Harris until she dropped out in the primary so I will be happy with her too. I think she will work with Biden so well, and her focus will be progressive fiscally which I do not feel is a strength for Biden, as far as my vote is concerned. I would like to see Warren background become forefront in the race. Go after corporations and wall street.

at the bottom of the list, primarily because the MA Repub governor would name her replacement, and control of the Senate is as important as the White House if we hope to reverse tRump's carnage. I'd also slightly prefer someone a little younger who could easily follow Joe for two terms. Ideologically, Warren is my number one pick, but I'm thinking pragmatics.

It all depends on when Warren would announce her resignation and when it would take effect. The legislature would have plenty of time to pass a law requiring the Governor to appoint a Dem replacement until the special election.

the black lives matter movement in ascendancy in the nation and the fact that Rep. Clyburn and black voters saved Joe's campaign and catapulted him into capturing the nomination.

Some might not want to hear it, but an all-white ticket right now would be a disaster for Dems.
