Pelosi should restart an impeachment investigation
I know Dems are split on political efficacy but how do you ignore Bolton's allegations? These are essentially new charges in addition to reaffirming the Ukraine misconduct.
How do Dems say we see the criminality and misconduct but pursuing them now is inconvenient and possibly deleterious to our political future. There is a duty involved, oaths were sworn Bolton must at least be called to testify immediately if the Dems are to retain the moral high ground. Force Trump to delay and deny, it can only serve to discredit him.

Given the delays that will surely imposed, the Senate will probably have a different composition by the time they vote.
But in the horrifying event Trump gets another term, make sure this "gift" awaits him. |

6. No, that ship has sailed. Maybe if it was a year & 4.5 months to the election. Not now.
He's shooting himself in the foot. If impeachment investigations begin now, it might backfire, as the endless email & Benghazi investigations did to the republicans. Even though, God knows, there are plenty of things to impeach him again on. Best just concentrate on GOTV and keeping people as safe as possible.

13. Calling for an investigation is only
Step ONE.
An impeachment would only come later if the charges are supported by evidence. Dems can't justify not investigating and you get enhanced subpoena powers under the banner of impeachment. Try to remember political expediency should not conflict with Dems sworn duty to defend the constitution. |

43. You think a favorable ruling would lead the Trump team to just turn over immediately
anything the House asked for without a court fight?
It wouldn't. They'd still take it to court. And if they even got a ruling before the election, they'd appeal it. And then appeal that ruling to the Supreme Court. No House subpoena would produce any information from Trump before the election, no matter what the Supreme Court rules in the next couple of weeks. |

44. A favorable ruling
isn't necessary right away.
This is a huge issue of separation of powers. House without subpoena power is a congress without OVERSIGHT.The Inquiry will proceed at its own speed but without a favorable ruling might be as toothless as the first impeachment try. But again, regardless of political expediency, we must persist if the checks and balances of a republic are to be preserved. |

Such a move will allow Trump to claim political witchhunt. He is sinking from his own incompetence, we are better off letting him destroy himself.
If we hold the House big and retake the Senate, then she can start the impeachment process so that it goes to the Senate after January 3rd of next year. Even if the Senate fails to remove Trump, President Biden can have the Justice Department go after him after January 21 of next year. |

I still think Dems have a sworn duty to investigate and if they can substantiate and corroborate the Bolton charges-Impeach. Should be done without regard to timing or political expediency. Idealistic / boy scout view aside, pushing Bolton's charges to the front of the news cycle is good politics, not bad. Why is highlighting treasonous and probably criminal behavior bad campaigning??? |

31. Cons are NOT rallying
in fact, they're collapsing one by one:
"Conservative columnist Max Boot on Thursday stressed the significance of former national adviser John Bolton’s forthcoming tell-all book about his 17 months working in President Donald Trump’s administration. “You have to understand how unprecedented this is,” Boot told CNN’s “Newsroom” of Bolton’s memoir, “The Room Where It Happened,” scheduled for release next week. “We’ve never seen such a senior former official saying that the president they served was fundamentally unfit and unethical and ignorant and therefore incapable of doing the job,” said Boot, a commentator for The Washington Post. Bolton alleges in his memoir, for which he reportedly received a $2 million advance, that Trump sought China’s help in his reelection. He has faced backlash, however, for not raising concerns about Trump’s conduct at the time and for failing to cooperate in Trump’s impeachment. Boot, who left the GOP following Trump’s 2016 election victory, said Bolton’s book only confirmed concerns raised by other top-ranking Trump officials who have left the White House. “The difference here is that Bolton has provided a fuller report on what he saw because he was a copious note taker,” Boot continued. “So, this is a very damning indictment and I think Trump and his defenders will have trouble running away from because Bolton is one of them. You can’t accuse him of being part of the deep state. He’s as right-wing as they come.” |

Chewing gum, while riding a unicorn while balancing a stack of spinning plates, and rolling hula hoops around our outstretched arms is another. We cannot afford to make the same stupid mistakes as we did in 2020 - and the lay of the land is immeasurably more complex this time. Anyone inclined to see it knows how corrupt Trump is - and even knows most of what he has done. Anyone not inclined to see it won't have their minds changed by another set of hearing - and it gives Trump more ammunition to use to rile up his base. Right now he's hanging himself. My advice is "Please proceed." We don't need his base screaming that we kicked the chair out from under him. |

But, of course, we're going to have to put up with plenty of "Democrats are WEAK if they don't impeach him AGAIN" swarms from the usual suspects.
Funny how they insisted he be impeached last year because if they waited until this year "it will be too late!" Now we are four months before the election and suddenly, it's no longer "too late" but must be done no matter what. Do you get the feeling this really isn't about impeachment at all? |
