Just heard a commentator say that the Republican Party may become a permanent minority party

I heard the same thing after Obama replaced the disastrous Bush regime. Then the people who own the country, those who own the vast majority of the nation’s wealth, bankrolled the Tea Party movement and hate took over for reason and goodwill. Don’t count out the power of money to continue to buy elections.
“The people who own the country are going to run it again”. That is a quote from a conservative panelist on the McNeil Lehrer report right s after Bush was elected in 2000.

But, it didn't take long for Reagan to solve that.

It accounts for voter suppression, collaborating with enemies of our nation, and a host of other malfeasance.

this excellent article linked below shows that. One interesting point is white people will be minority by 2045. The share of white people relative to the entire population is declining steadily. This means states like Texas will eventually turn blue. If not this cycle, then the next. Once Texas and Florida are blue there is no path for the GOP to win the presidency again.
However, because of the way the senate works , a lot of red states which still count for 2 senators, they may retain the senate at some stage. We will end up with winning the presidency every time and having to fight for the senate.

They have a built-in advantage in the Senate, and gerrymandering (to which the Supreme Court has given its blessing) will ensure that they are at least competitive in the House. And of course they still hold the majority on the Supreme Court. So they may be supported by a minority of voters, but the undemocratic nature of our elections will prevent the party itself from becoming a permanent minority, as much as we would all like to see that happen.

The youngest 40% of eligible voters prefer Dems to Repubs by two to one. Pew tracking them says they are not getting more conservative as they age.

That two to one margin is unprecedented.

Tucker Carlson and George Will have both concluded the Republican Party will cease to be a national political party.
