So, what is going to happen. Are they going to extend UI? Trump is now pushing Republicans to not

extend. I think they have to and they know it. They low ball with 100 a week. They have to for the economy alone. Maybe for votes but certainly not because they care what is going to happen to people.

I know no one knows what is going to happen, but a guess. Do you think Trump will interfere and Republicans and Dems won't come to an agreement, or it will get done?

1. I believe the $100/week replace the extra $600/week that ends now

and its on top of the normal UE benefit you are eligible for

4. I kinda feel it is a negotiating point, but then I heard something from WH not wanting to make this

a precedent. That seems it can put something in the spokes.

17. anything that passes congress can be veto'd, GOP use of extortion to get what they

want from democrats is typical and too many times democrats cave. This is a time democrats can not under any circumstances cave to GOP demands of a shield law

2. It will get done.

At this point Republican Senators are going to do anything they can to try to keep their jobs and if they fuck this up they are doomed - with what appears to be coming electorally in November, they know they'll lose the Senate for quite some time if they are the ones withholding aid as the House passed the HEROS Act in May. People know it is the Republican Senate that is in the way of millions of Americans being able to pay their rent/mortgage and feed their families and generally keep the economy afloat.

Mitch probably leaked the $100 per week story just so he can extend the $600 (as he was always going to do), but be able to say "See, I'm a man of the people and I care about those who are unemployed - I had to work SO hard to get it done, but I did it - please re-elect me".

...although he's going to get businesses liability for COVID-related illness as part of his 'compromise'.

5. Silly me, I forgot about McConnell, and for sure, he has an election. Well that just sealed it for

me lol. Thanks for that. I do not know that they can hit 600 though. I think that may still vary. I figured they would settle on 300 then heard shit from WH, so was concerned.

11. What he really wants is the payroll tax cut

so they can continue to whittle away at Social Security and Medicare. Their long-term goal is to eradicate those.

13. +1. I am hoping they really can't get away with this one. It was floated. But, I do not think people

are going to let that one happen. I hope.

19. From what I understand (and admittedly it's not a lot), it's Trump that wants

the payroll tax cut and Republicans in the Senate are against it.

I don't know where Mitch comes down on it though, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to make it into the package - though of course as with most things I could be wrong.

3. Ds are in the best position on this. The $600 should be nonnegotiable.

The extension should be 4 months to get us past the election.

I believe it will happen. Rs have already surrendered plenty of their “over my dead body” ground. Economists are weighing in, saying that the $600 needs to be extended.

It’s only money. It isn’t a moral test to ferret out “lazy freeloaders.”

7. Something gets done. I see things closing back down organically due to

widespread infection here in Florida. SARS-COV-2 isn’t going away without strong Federal leadership, Trump is incapable of that.

So McConnell has a choice, keep the stopgap money going to families in the hope that states finally instituting mask mandates allow the country to get somewhat of a grip on the virus, even with Trump’s incompetence, or follow Trump’s desires and get families hammered financially. If he makes the second choice, republicans will likely be out of power for a few decades, until people once again forget how much of assholes they are. The last thing McConnell wants in November is destitute, angry voters going to the polls, the big money boys and girls won’t be able to save his party if that happens.

9. I am assuming it will be somewhere between $100 and $600/week. There will be a compromise.

Also, perhaps some students that got nothing if their parents took the education credit, will now qualify for the lump payment. That was unfair to many young adult students that were also working, and if they graduated, the job market is crappy...and if they are still in school, they have expenses.

I heard Trump was very much opposed to extending it in May, but has come around a bit. Got a link?

16. Mitch understands

Where would our nation be if we had to pay a living wage?

Because that's the real question here: Why do the available jobs pay so poorly?

22. That poster didn't provide a link

My best guess is that it's extended temporarily to August 31st, them they agree on a reduced bill (maybe $400 a week) till January.
