General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOn July 25, I posted about my really nice experience putting up a "Veterans for Biden" sign.
When I got home from work today, my sign was gone. The wire stand was still in the yard but the sign was gone. The sign was posted three feet from the sidewalk. Some MAGAt had to trespass in the yard to steal the sign.
I am confused here. I thought MAGAts are supposed to be all about law and order. I thought MAGAts supported "our Veterans." I hear MAGAt's saying that the defense of property justifies the use of tear gas and "non-lethal" weapons. I simply cannot square what MAGAts say they and how they act.
What am I missing?
Not to worry. I'm ordering a replacement - maybe a dozen.

(11,150 posts)The MAGAts can steal all the signs they want. I'll get more. I am nothing if not stubborn.

(11,150 posts)I'm in ruby-red Arkansas. I suspect the local police would give the MAGAt a doughnut.

(11,348 posts)I put mine right next to my no tresspassing sign with a motion light and camera.
I've got an extra "Arkansas for Biden" sign if ya need another.

(11,150 posts)Thanks for the offer. You better hang on to your sign. You will probably need a replacement before November 3.

(116,003 posts)The sweat on the miscreant's hands will cause it to turn purple and it can't be washed off. You can get potassium permanganate at drugstores and Amazon. If it's a neighbor you'll know they did it because they'll have purple fingers.

(65,427 posts)Things like nail fungus and others. So, people put it on their skin, on purpose!
It's fairly safe, even by ingestion. The LD50 is estimated at more than one gram per kg of body weight.
If someone weighs 75kg (165#) they'd have to eat 2.5 ounces of it!
A tiny trace on the fingers won't amount to more than a few mg. That would lead to a probable negative health effect of over 10 trillion to one. Pretty safe.
TomSlick
(11,150 posts)I doubt it's a neighbor - too many pinko educated types in the neighborhood.

(22,430 posts)it is colorless but turns bright purple when it encounters proteins like the proteins in the skin on your hands.
It will eventually wash off after a couple of weeks

(50,601 posts)Denatonium benzoate, trade name Bitrex, is claimed to be the most bitter substance on Earth. Here's where you get some:
https://www.amazon.com/Denatonium-Benzoate-Power-Grown-3734-33-6/dp/B087NHW66Y/ref=pd_lpo_328_t_0/137-3760082-8382811?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B087NHW66Y&pd_rd_r=4b499e7e-cb99-4cf0-a439-2ea1665589e1&pd_rd_w=mWuCG&pd_rd_wg=ScXwJ&pf_rd_p=7b36d496-f366-4631-94d3-61b87b52511b&pf_rd_r=T3265MDVMGW7JFJQ0AXX&psc=1&refRID=T3265MDVMGW7JFJQ0AXX
Buy a pouch of this shit, mix it with 4 ounces of alcohol, and paint your signs with it. When the MAGAt pulls out your sign, the Bitrex will transfer to his fingers...and his next burger will be a whole new experience.

(65,427 posts)I tested it. Not with the denatonium benzoate but with the saccharide version.
I took 2 or 3 milligrams in 100 ml of distilled water.
Added a pinch of salt, because drinking distilled water is a bad idea, then took a drink.
All I could sense was the taste of a hundred aspirins for ten to fifteen minutes.
The taste threshold is thought to be 2ppb! For the benzoate ester, it's though to be 10-15. So, the saccharide ester is even worse. The same company makes both versions
It is BITTER!!!!!
I did this because it's used as a denaturant in ethanol to make it nonpotable. I wondered why it works, so I tested it. Terrible!

(202 posts)To keep political yard signs from being stolen, I have found success in printing "Thou shalt not steal. Exodus 20:15" around the edge of the sign. I print it large enough so that anyone approaching the sign can read it, but not so large that it detracts from the message.
Hilarious how these folks think they are honorable, but you have to spell it out to force them to behave with a modicum of decency.

(1,856 posts)When I read "what am I missing?" and a few more as I read the replies. So,with respect, humor and sarcasm,
You are possibly missing;
1) a minefield around the sign
2) a covered moat or pit around the sign; or little holes of soft Earth like moles and voles make, so they trip or twist their ankle; and or manure around the sign.
3) a camera, so you can identify them, then place signs in their yard or truck; since they stole yours they obviously wanted one, give them several?
4) a motion sensor causing lights and a recording, such as, You are trespassing and I have the right to protect my property, and then a recorded gunshots! or rump supporters really are deplorable, then recorded sirens.
5) grease or chemicals, itching powder, on the sign.
I do appreciate you not wanting to interfere with wildlife.
But maybe some of my suggestions might work, or just make you smile.

(22,430 posts)Do you own a dog?
MyMission
(1,856 posts)Would serve them right, and would be non violent and ecologically safe, compared with my moat or landmine ideas.
Yes I have a dog, and am an amateur farmer. I personally use mushroom compost.
Manure is a good fertilizer, but who wants to smell or step in that crap?!? Lol
