Today's unemployment report shows hiring slowing and permanent job loss numbers flat. Congress can't look at the permanent job loss and 3ml lower drop in claims from July's 4.8% to 1.8% in June, and conclude stimulus isn't needed, as some are suggesting today. Don't forget, the economy contracted at a record rate last quarter (32.9%)
Still down over 12 million jobs since February, as well...

(11,495 posts)what others here on DU are saying, this is all about doing the payroll tax cut thing. He knows he can't get that in a stimulus bill, so he is doing it with the executive order.
If he really wanted to do the right thing, he would take back the huge tax cut he gave the millionaires and billionaires, but we know that won't happen!

(14,167 posts)... same applies to the "small" business loans that transition into grants for the stimulus payments he wanted to keep top secret.

(182,877 posts)You are talking about reality. They havent seen that for years.
Rents are getting a lot of attention (should have been back in March/April) right now but whats really looming are the holidays. Yeah hey are after the elections so theres a lot of tunnel vision but if their isnt money flowing in October we are going to see a serious storm. Oh and flu season too. Theres that.

(86,005 posts)...republicans are still without any bill at all to show Americans they care about us before we vote.
House Dems already passed their bill which republicans must reconcile their Senate bill with. They must know if they go into the election w/empty hands, voters will make them pay.
I know they went home for the weekend, but I think they'll get back on their horses and ride on Monday.
Giddy up.

(65,168 posts)That "lower than expected" number of new claims is 4.5 times what it was 8 months prior.
Not exactly good economic news.
They keep getting "lower than expected" numbers.
Could it be that they're willfully overestimating, so the numbers keep looking "better than expected" instead of what they are: dreadful.
